Since 2011, Simon Hafner aka Sun People from Graz has been merging footwork, juke, jungle and UK hardcore influences to create his own distinctive sound. With releases on labels like Exit, Alphacut, Rua Sound and Through These Eyes, he has made a name for himself in the international 160 bpm scene over the years. In addition to remix jobs and his own productions, Simon also pursues his musically eclectic vision on a highly rated four-weekly radio show on London's Sub.FM.

On his EP The Walls, released in 2020 on Defrostatica, he devoted himself to early Chicago house music as well as European proto-hardcore of the 80s and the turbo sound championed by the likes of Fracture, Itoa and BSN Posse.

In 2022, Sun People presents a refined version of high-speed breakbeat minimalism, drawing further from bleep, dub and even industrial techno, but still with optimistic depth. From the cold bleep-influenced opener Into The New to the jungle-tekno track Overtoom and the tribalism of State of Flux, Sun People builds its own hypnotic approach to captivate dancers. Amaterasu marks the soulful coda and gives us the opportunity to take a breath.

"While working on Cleansed the primary focus was to make cold, footwork-battle ready tracks while still keeping club dance floors in mind. I pushed my boundaries as a producer, experimenting with more minimal and less-sounding tracks composed primarily of drums, sub bass, and synthesizers. Whereas in the past I've focused my productions around a Soul or RnB heavy sound that often includes samples, for this project I mainly used hardware such as the Dave Smith OB-6 and the Roland MC-307."

Hesk is a Footwork DJ and producer from the Netherlands, currently based out of Toronto, playing a key role in the diffusion of Footwork and Juke in Canada since 2010. In celebration of his recent Low Key Recs release "Cleansed," He's made an exclusive FWJ mix full of cold, footwork-battle ready tracks aimed at the dancefloor. While his  production is known for featuring Soul and RnB elements within the Footwork style, often focusing on lush chords, and smooth vocals, he pushed himself outside this comfort zone with this latest EP. In his new work Hesk is experimenting with more minimal and less-sounding tracks composed primarily of drums, sub bass, and synthesizers. 
His music has been released on Loose Squares Records, Nervous Records’ Strapped sub-label, Philthtrax, Low Keys Recs, Juke Bounce Werk, and several independent labels, and includes collaborations with Teklife's DJ Earl, Boylan (Chi), Sirr TMO, DJ PayPal, Brick Bandits' Nadus, and more.

Hesk's music has been featured on BBC Radio1Xtra, XLR8R, Red Bull Music Academy (RBMA), Complex, Rinse FM, Vice (Thump), and more. He has also played global stages in the Netherlands, Belgium, and the US, playing alongside renowned artists such as DJ Deeon, Traxman, MikeQ, Jets (Machine Drum and Jimmy Edgar), Kush Jones, Rustie, and more.

He's currently hosting "Shadowban Radio" on ISO.FM, a Footwork-centric radio show showcasing internationally acclaimed artists such as DJ Manny, Sinistarr, Big Dope P.

Goldman is a Bristol based producer, DJ and co-odinator of the 160bpm music forum  and promotions outlet WORKS (fka Half-time // Slow/fast) as well as the record label WORKS Records.  Both the label & club night under the WORKS moniker set out to exhibit the varying  global sounds of the grey area that exists between footwork, juke, jungle and hardcore music, whilst retaining the futurist vision set out by the originators of these genres.  
Similarly, Goldman’s productions set out to push boundaries, whilst paying homage to the origins of these genres. A drum machine enthusiast, his productions are written initially using an outboard sampler, and focus on creating grooves with minimal elements and a distinctly live feel, heavily inspired by the early days of UK rave music  & juke / footwork. 
His second EP, ‘The Waiting Room’, demonstrates his ability to make tunes for home  listening as well as the dancefloor, inspired by liminal spaces. 80s samples, warm funk  leads and airy, saturated pads are used alongside chopped up breaks & triplet drums  to create a sense of nostalgia, whilst leaning into the retro-futurism of 90s jungle &  forward thinking arrangements of Chicago footwork.  
He has had support from DJ Mag, Rinse France & Balamii, releases on Trax Haven, Excess & WORKS last year, and several more already lined up for this year.

Here we are at mix 100 of our series with an exclusive mix from none other than Chicago legend and founding father of the footwork genre, producer and DJ, RP Boo! The originator, the inspiration, and the cornerstone on which the entire genre has been built on.
    RP Boo started making tracks in 1995 inspired by the house music around him in Chicago. By bumping up the tempo of ghetto house he established a new template that lit a fire under an entire generation of dancers and producers. He created numerous unreleased tracks before experiencing his personal breakthrough with 1997's ‘Baby Come On’ – a composition many cite as the first Footwork track (find it on the Planet Mu's ‘Classics Vol 1’).
    RP Boo's essential first album, 2013's ‘Legacy’ caused a storm of acclaim worldwide as people finally started to piece together his true place in Footwork and the powerful legacy of his work as an innovator. In parallel with productions, his always on-point DJ sets have lit up festivals and clubs worldwide and continue to do so to this day, notably leading to him being named one of the ‘100 World’s Best DJs’ by DJ Mag.
    This Friday he releases  ‘Legacy Vol.2’ on Planet Mu, continuing his story. Featuring tracks created between 2002 and 2007, this is a wonderous selection of material, some known, some unknown.
    RP Boo continues to produce and tour around the world, spreading good vibes, and joy everywhere he lands. The enduring success of his music proving that there’s still no one quite like him. He is a living legend whose work has influenced us deeply. The collection of music we have chronicled would not exist with out him. We are so honored to be able to showcase a studio mix by one of our heroes! Get into the sound!
