Diving deep into the heart of underground sonics, Defrostatica Records, the Leipzig-based beacon of cutting-edge sound, presents a stunning fusion of genres in their latest offering. Since its inception in 2015, the label has boldly navigated the realms of Footwork, Juke, Jungle, and Ghettotech; now embarking on a soulful exploration with the "Waves EP" by powerhouse duo, Arcane & Jon1st.

Scheduled for release on May 3rd, the "Waves EP" marks an evocative journey through the soundscapes of Chicago's Juke and Footwork, juxtaposed with Bristol's signature jungle breakbeat.

Arcane & Jon1st - Escape Plan [Rendah Mag Premiere]

Belgium based polyglot DJ and producer La Dame is about to release her strongest body of work to date! Her forthcoming Bestiary EP is centered around global breakbeats, presenting four forward-thinking takes on jungle music. She has crafted her own distinctive approach to jungle drum 'n' bass, combining elements of both slow and fast styles within the genre in a way that is entirely unique. Her drum hits are precisely and minimalistically arranged, creating a powerful impact in perfect harmony with deep-roaring
basses and vibrant, tropical voices. La Dame's conceptual use of animal-sounding samples is based on the idea that the Bestiary EP depicts creatures that are a mixture of human-cyborg and animal,
through electronic music. We can clearly hear the creatures dancing passionately and loudly on the broken screens of our time.
Pura Pura from France remixed Full Metal Eagle in a shimmering fashion between dubstep and hardcore breakbeats. The Untouchables remix of Kinnara, a being half human and half bird, is as heavyweight as you can expect from them. Both remixes will be released separately. Today we are happy to premiere Sand Worm! Sun People is one of the few modern producers with an unmistakable signature sound. For more than a decade, the Austrian has seemingly effortlessly pursued the plan of developing a soulful minimalism in the field between footwork, jungle and techno, creating moments of bliss for listeners and dancers.

His third EP on Defrostatica emphasizes the contrast between footwork grooves - as in After The End - and spiraling drum techno patterns on 160 beats per minute like in Forward.

Sun People - No Fear No Hope (Defrostatica)

After five years of planning, writing, and refining their sound, London-based production duo Kolectiv are set to release their long-awaited debut drum & bass album, Circadian Rhythms.

The project began in the aftermath of the pandemic, when the pair started setting aside tracks that captured the spirit of a night out at a drum & bass event. Their vision was clear: to create an album that reflects the variety, energy, and progression of a rave – from the first beats that pull you into the closing sounds that carry you home.

“Going out to drum & bass nights, you’d hear so many different flavours across six or seven hours. We wanted the album to follow that same arc – like a circadian rhythm, a natural flow of time, but in this case the cycle of a rave,” Kolectiv explain.

To achieve this, the duo placed a strong emphasis on originality and sound design. Most of the album was built from scratch using their own recorded samples, crafted through sessions with keys, drums, and guitars, and only dipping into external sources when absolutely necessary. Vocal collaborations from PAV4N, Hijak MC, Illmatika and Kerry Donnelly add unique flavour to the project, while carefully placed interludes tie the project together as a complete listening experience.

“This isn’t just a collection of tracks. We wanted it to be a journey – a cradle-to-grave kind of experience – with highs, lows, and moments to breathe.”

The title Circadian Rhythms captures that intention perfectly: an audio diary of a night spent immersed in drum & bass culture, told through Kolectiv’s trademark blend of technical precision and emotional depth.

The project also coincided with a complete studio overhaul, giving Kolectiv a fresh environment to finalize and mix down the record with a renewed sense of clarity and focus.

With Circadian Rhythms, Kolectiv deliver more than an album – they present a story, an atmosphere, and a tribute to the music and culture that shaped them.

Nu Gun on the flipside gets a lot more dubby with it's perfect jungle beat edits and moody chord stabs - all that laid out over a well known vocal sample. It can easily be considered a prime example of Sun People's signature sound which is heavily rooted in Dub, Jungle and Juke/Footwork.
