Time to welcome more new, undiscovered talent to the fold, this time we give you Sheffield producer thatmanmonkz with an amazing EP entitled Please Don’t Slip, Trip Or Fall Off. thatmanmonkz came to our attention last year when his track That Would Be Alright appeared on Tone Control Music. The low-slung, bluesy inflections combined with Moodymann-esqe vocals and deep pads had us instantly hooked so when he presented us with three brand new tracks for Delusions Of Grandeur we literally bit his hand off.

On the A side we have Girl I Know It which, if ever we’re asked to define a D.O.G sound, pretty much sums it up perfectly. The whole track is built around a super-fat, looped up bassline which adds a real energy and drive. Chuck in a great vocal hook, flapping kicks and rattling hats and you’ve got a peaktime smash which sounds completely fresh whilst staying true to the blueprint of classic house.

Flip over for Blowin’ My Mind which nudges down the BPM a touch for an amazing jazz-inflicted mid-tempo house jam. Once again, thatmanmonkz lets his hip-hop roots shine with MPC beats laying the foundation for the raw bass samples and dusty rhodes.

Finally, things get super-sultry on Be With Me featuring the vocals of Dnae. Compressed pads set the mood on this lovely, soulful number but once again, things are kept raw, fresh and bumpy thanks to the beat programming skills of thatmanmonkz. We absolutely love this release and hope you share our excitement in the obvious talent of this UK producer.

Felipe Gordon is back on Forbidden Cuts with some tasty grooves in the form of Run Run Run from the forthcoming "Jambalaya" EP. The Bogota-based producer’s unique blend of house rhythms and acidic textures sit well within the roster of the Discotexas subsidiary. Filtered percussion and hazy arpeggios draw the track in before dropping into a classic piano progression. Driven by its hypnotic grooves the track bounces in and out of its funky hook maintaining a club friendly dynamic edge. Compared to his track Chiclago released on Forbidden Cuts in 2016, Run Run Run places more focus on the warmth and vibe rather than catching the attention with an aggressive groove. As the layers progress, vocal samples cut through the mix and compliment the wobbly bassline. In breakdowns the track slips into spacey psychedelic environments and quickly jump back into the main refrain.

Run Run Run is another friendly reminder of the carefully curated selections on Forbidden Cuts. With an emphasis on variety, the Lisbon-based label seeks to represent the diversity of culture within the Portuguese scene. Gordon’s creations drift around the multicultural influences in Lisbon while also maintaining his own distinct warmth and arrangements. Pairing up with Forbidden Cuts again could see him take another step towards reaching an even greater audience.

Based in Bogotá, this esteemed producer and DJ has been making a name for himself with releases on his own label Nómada Records, as well as Toy Tonics, Waze & Odyssey’s Street Tracks, Seb Wildblood’s imprint Church and many more. He has a lo-fi, jazzy house sound filled with feeling and good vibes and here shows off his ability to lay down loose grooves once more. Brilliantly smooth opener ‘Run Run Run’ is a track full of warmth and feel good funkiness with trilling and modulating Rhodes harmonies, squelchy synths and bumping drums all getting you going.

The more drunken, hip hop influenced ‘Jambalaya’ is a perfectly stripped back but jazzy track with lush Rhodes, samples and a wonky acid bassline that will make you jump to the dance floor.

Last but not least, the magical ’I’m Mr Señor Love Daddy’ is the perfect track to wake you up. Yet more loose and playful Rhodes and summery harmonies rain down this one as a heavy driving bass line and hip swinging claps all get you moving.

This is a timeless EP of perfectly loved-up and cosy house music.

Fast rising producer Felipe Gordon continues to impress, with his latest offering landing on S3A's Sampling As An Art Records via the 'Crossroads Project Vol. 2' compilation.

Here he supplies his soulful house cut 'Liberal Pie' which is highlighted by squelching acid stabs, airy vocal hooks and a warm melody, a sound profile that finds Felipe Gordon in top from once again.
