Following up on our catalogue, we’re happy to announce our latest release, featuring a single from the Finnish young prodigy which is Nosfer. 

After first releasing on Counterpoint back in 2017, Nosfer has been walking his sonic path, mainly through his collaborations with the Music Squad collective. While becoming a more spread out name in the scene, mainly through his music on Principle Records and the Music Squad label itself, Nosfer is still pretty much a rare undiscovered diamond of talent. 

Having the privilege of working closely with the artist for the past two years, we have been constantly surprised by the amount of creativity cored inside his sound. The first wave of this output comes in the form of this single, which showcases both an outstanding production skillset and an emotional approach to the “deep-tech” sound of Drum & Bass. 

Side A // Nosfer – Interlinked 

It is not that usually that we find a perfect balance between the highly demanding technical sound of deep Drum & Bass, and soulfulness of more musical pieces. For us that is the Counterpoint – the exact sweet spot of our sonic aesthetic. Interlinked, for us, is that perfection in equilibrium. 

The dark futuristic soundscape of the intro drops into a razor-sharp percussion, conducted by a very intense low-end pressure. The perfectly crafted midrange synth sounds tip the scales back towards the musical side, giving the track a noticeable twist towards a more melancholic note.

Quickly becoming one of the most iconic duos in drum & bass, Whiney & Inja join forces on ‘Game Face (Stay Alert)’ providing an unmissable sonic showdown which combines the sounds of both of their signature styles. The essence of the song touches upon the global situation which has impacted each and every one of us as Inja’s wordplay transcends into the realms of bass music, turning gloomy government guidelines into something we can all enjoy. The pandemic has hit hard for artists and the music industry as a whole, but if one thing is for certain you can count on Whiney & Inja to supply positive vibes where they’re needed the most. Whenever these two link up it’s a guaranteed banger inbound, and ‘Game Face (Stay Alert)’ is no exception…

Successes of their previous drum & bass anthems include ‘Flashlight’ which soon became one of the scene’s most sought after dubs championed by Randall, ‘She Just Wanna Dance’ which conveyed the powerful message of one of the many struggles womxn face when simply trying to enjoy themselves to the music they love, ultimately leading to a spoken word performance from Inja in the Huffington Post, and ‘Be My Cure’ which was originally released on Sick Music 2019 but still dishes out damage to this day. The dynamic duo’s relationship extends past the studio and onto the stage, with the pair also tearing up the likes of leading drum & bass festivals such as Hospitality On The Beach with Inja’s ‘Fully Fuelled Flex’ live sets.

Bristolian don Nuke is next up on Audio Entropy, an exciting British imprint based out of Welwyn Garden City. The innovative label have been setting pace as of late with a wide variety of drum & bass-themed releases from a number of both upcoming and established names, including H20 DnB, eFly, Neuroscientist, Esoro, Bordome and Trial & Error, kicking up a flurry of hard-hitting sonics in their wake.

Nuke is next up, and boy has he brought some sauce with him. The EP, comprised of 6 full-frontal, minimally-edged 174 cuts, is an absolute corker, supplying everything we could want from a project of this nature. The lead track ‘Mist’, which we’ve had the pleasure of hosting today, is up first, strutting forth in a blaze of low, scything sorcery. It dips gleefully into a number of different, core elements of the DnB spectrum, but always reverts to that raw, stripped back aesthetic you can hear reverberating effortlessly from all corners of this EP.

Elsewhere on the EP, highlights include the highly-impressive, always-progressive nuances of ‘The Short Of It’, the brilliant, bonafide rolling tones of the standout ‘Hydra’ and the pulsating, culpable grittiness of wobble-fest ‘Eyes Of Xena’. All are linked by a vital string of developing sonics, but also willing enough to push out into their own unique zones; it’s a fantastic EP to listen to in full, and one we’ll definitely keep in our rotation.
