1: the production of a retrospective hour-long radio show to air as part of the framework:afield series of guest curated editions;

2: the production of a series of short on-the-spot creative documentary pieces to be presented to audiences at the beginning of each day of activities during the tuned city festival. participation included a daily gathering of recordings and/or interviews from the tuned city events, and the editing of them into an audio highlight sequence to be presented the following day... this is the first of our four shorts, produced across the tuned city festival, tallinn, estonia, in summer 2011.

tuned city tallinn - short no. 4

ford&merlini are Felicity Ford and Valeria Merlini. 

Born in the UK, Felicity Ford is a sound artist based in Reading in the UK. She completed her PhD in The Domestic Soundscape in 2011, at Oxford Brookes University. In her work, field-recording activities and documentary radio-making techniques are frequently used as methodologies for exploring objects and social issues or contexts. Felicity focuses particularly on sound and listening as tools for investigating (and playing in) our world. Her work synthesises the legacies of John Cage and 1970s Feminist art practice into an approach that is mischievous and curiosity-filled, and that draws attention to the meaning of everyday things through sound. In her work she explores sounds of the everyday with a particular focus on sounds which relate in some way to the spaces or routines surrounding the home. 

Born in Bolzano, Valeria Merlini is a sound artist, DJ and curator based in Berlin. After completing her study in Architecture in Florence, she obtained a Master’s degree in Sound Studies at UdK, Berlin. In her work she explores sounds of the  everyday within an urban context through an interdisciplinary and critical approach. She is co-founder of Studio Urban Resonance, is a member of the Italian label Burp Enterprise and co-runs Staalplaat Radio.
