Pure 1990's approach to techno-house, inspired by the Detroit scene.  A bit of a diversion from my usual fare, but still extremely fun to write.

Jazz-flavored Drum n Bass with equal parts atmosphere and rhythm.
Trivia:  The only serious track I ever did with the Orion sequencer.  The way it handled pattern arrangement was awesome - so natural for constructing tunes.  Shame it didn't catch one
Trivia #2: Originally inspired by a person who long since faded into history, thus the song was renamed.  The "Ess" does in fact stand for something ;)

Ess Brown

From the unlikely breeding grounds of rural Canada, Foreign Presence first crafted his unique sound in the early 1990’s.  During this time he was first exposed rave and break-beat music via the legendary Amiga demoscene / MOD scene, and spent uncountable hours swapping disks with traders all over Europe to get the latest sounds.  With the aid of a computer, a sampler and access to his father’s extensive record collection (which contained almost no electronic music, save for some earlier Herbie Hancock records), FP recreated the high energy break-beat sound he loved using “whatever was available”.

The result was a sound almost as alien to the mainstream techno scene as it was to the people around him.  Fortunately, many warmed to the vibe, which led to domestic and international airplay for alt-break beat tracks like “Televangelism” and “Anticlimactic”.

After a long hibernation (life happens!) Foreign Presence has returned with a more refined sound and substantially better equipment.  What hasn’t changed is his desire to bend genres and release tunes for no other reason than them sounding interesting.  There are no rules, just results!
