Formalisms is Singapore's answer to bands like Broken Social Scene. Representing vastly differing musical backgrounds, each of the band members have come together as an sonic experiment. As opposed to making music with a specific sound and audience in mind, the creative collective uses a particular process to create their organised sound. That process is formalisms. 

However, in a paradoxical twist, the band’s primary formalism for composing is playing together in an improvisational jam. One member leads with a pattern of notes. The others subsequently find their place in the sonic space with a particular rhythm and tonality; their individual sounds shaped by their own listening material and playing styles. Every time the band jams, rhapsodies are born out of synergy and spontaneity. The collective result is their eclectic and unconventional music. 

Join Formalisms in a quest to enjoy music that eschews disassociating definitions of differing genres of music on June 7 2013 at The Coliseum at Resorts World Sentosa. 
The band will be launching their debut EP launch as part of the launch of their record label SPEAR, organised by SP's Diploma in Music and Audio Technology.
