Coming up next on FORMAT is a new EP from the label’s head honcho Juan Sanchez including remixes by Jeroen Search and Andre Kronert. 

The Diffy EP marks Juan’s first FORMAT EP released under his own name, and it’s definitely one that will turn heads on the floor. The original version of ‘Diffy’ and ‘Mirage’ reflect Juan’s trademarked minimal but hard-as-nails techno sound: staccato kicks, nervously rattling percussions and looped synth pulses make up the fundaments of both tracks, locking in all ingredients for proper techno clubbing.

Up first on the remix tip is renowned techno veteran Jeroen Search, whose remix of ‘Diffy’ is a chunky piece of stripped floor funk with subtle hints of Detroit techno. Following up is a rerub by Andre Kronert, who drops a beefy slab of mid-tempo techno that’s particularly heavy on the dub side of things.

Having reached double digits on its release roster, Amsterdam-based techno label Format presents its 11th release. And it’s a three-piece ensemble by label honcho Juan Sanchez himself… 

FR011 delivers three techno bombs that perfectly reflect the Format sound. Things kick off with ‘Despite the…’, which combines deep grooves to staccato bass pulses designed for peak-time moments. Spanish DJ/producer Aiken delivers a superb remix that is propelled by a nasty industrial groove and coated in dark atmospheres. Closing the release is the sinister ‘In The Dark’, which is as deep as it is trippy...        

FORMAT second 2017 release is another prime example of the label’s coveted sound.

This first Format compilation is a prime example of the label’s signature sound. Featuring an impressive variety of musical perspectives, it’s a mint snapshot of Format’s ever adventurous view on techno.

Format lays down an impressive array of minimal-tinged and powerful dance floor techno laced with depth and atmosphere. There’s quite a lot to enjoy here to say the least; a very special appearance is made by legendary NY-producer Mike Parker, whose off-beat ‘Necklace Dancer’ perfectly reflects Format’s penchant for abstract techno. It nestles well among chunky four-to-the-floor material from various trusted label associates: ROD delivers a raw house-flavored banger on ‘Acine’, while TWR72’s ‘EXP19’ explores techno’s darker territories. Label curator, Juan Sanchez, also steps up to the game with ‘Warthog’, a high-octane piece of fiery techno that captures the man’s highly anticipated sound. Topping off, new label signees such as Mark Groot and Optics deliver intense cuts that already make us look forward to more of their studio output. 
Format V.A. will be released on two separate vinyl releases, followed by a digital release featuring all nine tracks. The first 200 vinyl releases will be made available in transparent vinyl.
The release features artwork by DEFRAME, and is based on the refraction of light. It is meant to represent the illusion of a tiny hypnotic multiverse, where each plane exists in a different time and space.

The fourteenth Format release is definitely one not to miss out on, as it offers material from some of today’s most sought-after techno heads. Up first is Expiration, a joint effort from Matrixxman and Echologist. This one combines Matrixxman’s signature bass and Echologist’ one-of-a-kind dub techno flavors across a very trippy canvas. Format’s Juan Sanchez follows with a dark and synth-heavy rework of the track. On Foʞus, Juan displays a more melodic cut propelled by a playful groove. Closing things off, Matrixxman and Echologist turn Foʞus into a crushing techno track filled with sweeping fx.
Format continues with another strong release that’s destined to do the damage…

The EP opens with Qx02, a jacking techno track built on gritty synth swirls and an acidy pulse. Following up, Mike delivers a much darker rework with a menacing kick drum as its engine. The EP's title track Dans Ta Tête pumps up the tempo, delivering a fast-paced synth-driven stomper. Things close off with Plural, on which Juan explores the more dubbier sides of techno across lush and warm ambient chords. 
FR015 is another prime example of Format’s signature techno sound that’s successfully finding its way to the floors.

Setaoc Mass drops a bass-heavy remix of the track that will definitely do the damage on the floor. Adding a scruffier, slightly more metallic groove to the mix, ‘Doscope’ weaves in dubby sounds and minimal percussion. Closing the EP is ‘Develose’, an uptempo and industrial belter designed for peaktime purposes.
