Heavy percussion sounds playing with the flute in an uncanny familiar rhythm as the squeaking in the ears gives way to angelic rustling.
The last time I heard something like that was on the seashore, looking for the sound of mysterious wings.
I wrote down this story to understand: did it really happen or was it a dream?

The 38th release of katharsis and our final release of 2023 is the prodigious compilation "Embracing Darkness, Absorbing Light" featuring a vast array of artist beloved by the label. Throughout the grandiose line-up of the 36 tracks, the listener is absorbed by various differing interpretations of the theme outlined in the title of the album. Some of the invited artist went full into introverted progressions and meditative sounds, while others focused on aggressive rhythms or anthemic melodies. But even though the styles and techniques of the songs differ from each other, the artists seem to have some commonality in their sonic palettes that binds it all together in a mutual love for music as a healing force of nature <3

Back for a new episode of my residency Disciple of Serendipity, i’m taking on the role of the interviewer, to invite Brazilian multi-disciplinary artist and label founder @yanhiga (aka @yyvu), foreshadowing their upcoming EU tour 🎙❣️

From their COVID EP 'Sylum' to the concept of Terra-Reforming, through their label @actarecordings, their close relationship with nature, the video games & songs that have shaped them, and the energy they put into nurturing their vision & preserving ecosystems in any form — thanks to their generous insights during this interview, this episode does not only portray Yan Higa, but also the Brazilian experimental electronic scene through them.

"Following a return to form with their release “soft memory” in Nov of 2023, Bodiah brings an offering, a sacrament of two new tracks. Sculpted as psalms to the neural pathways we carve within ourselves while attempting to navigate the larger world, songs for sodium channels etched by the brush fire of the soul.

Further dissecting and pushing the sounds found on their past release, “Feudal” comes at the listener with a barrage of pummeling kicks and heavy bass, punctuated by rhythms of fragmented hand percussion, warped beyond recognition, and robotic sound design creating a world onto itself.  Plucked melodies pierce raw surface tension with emotive intent, while washes of carefully arranged noise whiplash the listener.  

As springs raw hope pierces the veil into reality once again, so too might we be renewed from the perpetual self into the eternal. "
