"Dribbling” is Tadleeh’s second Ep, which is now released on NKISI’s label INITIATION.
It’s a four tracks record that involves abstract concepts as well as material fields. The journey begins into a no-where-place in the Universe. Where far drum machine signals meet the sound of a classic guitar. Despite the sweetness of certain points of life, we have to move through different hurdles to generate new spirits. We have to pone our radicalisms into a new point of view. This record runs across sad synths and suffered chants touching familiar tribalism and techno dub beats, converting the initial fear into a club response.

The new album from multidisciplinary musician Ujstin Echno mosaics together the artist's life experiences across countries, years, genres, and friendships. Born in Nagyvárad, Romania, raised in Ferguson, Missouri, and now residing in Los Angeles, Echno's body of work is the final result of a series of catalysts – the desire to spotlight Eastern European musicians through their years-long Radio Benska show, their day job as a post-production sound editor in film, adolescent hours spent driving around St. Louis listening to R&B radio, and all of the ephemera in between.

The Little Funky Son demos were born out of time spent living, working, and traveling in Chicago, St. Louis, Prague, Milan, and Romania between 2018 and 2021 – often not through, perhaps, more common methods of artistic practice, but rather the serendipities arising from the interim moments. Take the wispy, mordant chugger "ISAACDNB," which started out as a request from a philosophy professor Echno worked with in St. Louis. It exists because, in its original form, it was a backing track for an educational video on Kant's Critique of Pure Reason Echno put together for his class. Another centerpiece of Little Funky Son, "WORDOFHONOR," was taken from recording sessions for Echno's collaborative 2022 album (as EKSE) with ELAZY, BINEAL PONK. The song samples streetcars in the Milan public transit system, pairing them with a Beach House-esque melodic line for a woozy, slightly dissonant lullaby.

In tandem, destructive editing via the Boss PS-3 and iZotope RX software beget a unique audio quality – highly dynamic, weighty but shifting in space. It's not hi-fi or lo-fi but an unknown third thing, like you came across it in an attic. Because of the slippery modalities in play, Little Funky Son feels at once cryptic and vulnerable, a rippling portal into someone else's inner world. Echno tells a story about their father returning to Romania on a trip and showing their music to his friend, who in turn described its genre as personal music.

"He's right," Echno reflects. "[the music] is all over the place, but it's tied to particular people and places, and that is a genre. It doesn't adhere to any kind of external expectations." The sonic non-linearity and frank personalness of the record draw from Echno's experiences as a longtime freeform radio DJ at WNUR, Terry Radio, Ma3azef, KCHUNG and a musical family—their father played guitar, wrote songs, and befriended The Grifters while coming of age in the South in the '80s and '90s, and their mother and her siblings anachronistically collected whatever Western pop records they could get ahold of in Nagyvárad prior to the dissolution of the USSR.

Recursive and refractive, Little Funky Son takes Echno's secret experiences and filters them through each other. The image of the rippling portal again comes to mind – personal music, too, applies to the way you peer in, and are thus actively interpolated into this process. Here, then, Echno's funky-sounding ephemera from the in-between become a communal meeting place for artist and listener.

Club Late Music and Morsel are happy to present a new addition to GUN-X __ a series of releases that enlarge the processes of collaboration beyond the borders of the Global URL Nation. For each project, members of the GUN community collaborate with members from another collective or label - exploring the results of cross-pollination and pooling across the global ecosystem of electronic music.

After an edition with Heel.zone in 2020 and with Hide Productions in 2023, we warmly welcome Morsel from the UK ! Morsel is a Manchester based label and arts platform inspired by literature and folklore, exaggerating the mysticism of our urban environments. Launched in 2023 only, their very just and sensitive approach convinced us instantly to extend the series with them.

For this one, Morsel wrote up a poem, which would serve as the primary source of inspiration to create a new track by musicians from both extended communities. 

It resulted in 17 tracks from Antonia XM, Bademjan, Clair X, Cralias, Dj Würm, Eurrope, excel dj, Flegma Joe, Griigg, Hajj, HR boat party, Ice_Eyes, Junior XL, Locre, Lucy Grey, Lukann, Older Brother, Pithe, Tobey, Yaka, Yauhei ASJ & Ziyiz.

“Never In My Born Days Did I See Such Night” is a collective exploration and experimentation into poetry as inspiration for composing music. The album oscillates between a sombre, dynamic landscape through a selection of heart-felt ambient tracks to bass driven club rhythms, mirroring the dark melancholic yet heavenly imagery painted in the poem. 

The album opens with angelic trance-like soundscapes decorated with glitches and robotic vocal elements that lead to a heavenly chorus of rich pads and textural field recordings. This feeling of euphoria is confronted with the latter half of the album drawing inspiration from deconstructed club music, flitting between sub basses and broken drum samples. The sludgy beats gather energy through the closing tracks through euro-dance-esque synths and electro-inspired drum patterns where they are met by the final track; an experimental collage of textures, computerised dialogues and dystopic sound bites that draw the compilation to a hypnotic close.

The release also comes with a zine of written contributions, which were inspired both by the original story, and by the tracks of the compilation, with Andres Komatsu, atrophene, Brice Reiter, Charlie O'Brien, Diana Serik, griddyeyes, Griigg, Ifuseekamy, julie nicol, Julieta Colantonio, l'autre champ d'eau, Léo Dubois, Le Spieman, Luz de Amor, Naledi Chai / Pillow Man, Older Brother, RAVEN, Solstice, & zozo.

The zine experiments with concrete poetry, broken narratives and long form writing as a response to the sonic landscape of the compilation. The collection delves into themes of longing, self discovery and hope through a textural lens reflected in the soundscapes of the album. Visual elements accompany the text facilitating melancholic narratives through depictions and arrangements of words, collage and graphics supporting the project.

After that, the release will be proposed as Name Your Price, like all our other ones, and benefits will be reinvested into CLM & Morsel for upcoming projects and functioning costs.
