Dan Formless launches Saboteurs Sanctuary as an auditory expression of his Forward Movement studio in London, UK.

This EP features a remix from Alex Celler and comes hot on the heels of Dan’s solo debut record “Fried All Day” on Bank of Switches that enjoyed support from Sonja Moonear, Satoshi Tommie, Alexkid, Bushwhacka!, Eddie Richards, Terry Francis, Shaun Reeves, Mike Shannon, Jamie Jones, Maceo Plex and Archie Hamilton. 

An avid collector of music gear with a penchant for vintage units, Dan has scoured the globe collecting rare studio machinery in a quest to create unique sounds. His travels have added further layers to an already rich canvas, painted by DJ exploits across major cities in Europe and Asia, alongside residencies in London nightclubs.

Focusing on solo music production, Dan has dedicated the last few years to his creative process liberation whilst experimenting with drum machines, synthesizers and effects. He is now sharing the results of these sonic explorations, delving into the deeper sides of house, techno and electro whilst staying true to his dubby minimal roots.

The inaugural ‘Actions Speak Louder’ EP hits the ground running with two original tracks from Dan Formless and a stellar remix from Alex Celler. ‘Nitty Gritty’ is a peak time brain melter with sizzling synth lines and intricate drum patterns occupying the A-side. ‘4Q’ weaves together syncopated rhythms and deep rolling bass lines on the flip side. These are punctuated by playful call-and- response synth motifs to create an enigmatic after-hours slow burner. Alex Celler offers a glitchy ‘4Q’ remix with his undeniable flair for fusing infectious grooves with futuristic aural landscapes in a late night exploration of modular electronics.

WYS! host another showcase in Room One this Sunday, as Rawbar figures Giuseppe Cennamo and Elvio Lannitti take over. Also joining the bill is Dan Formless, local favourite and founder of one of the capital’s key underground radio stations, Hoxton FM. The station has showcased talents to a far-reaching audience since launching in 2011, and Formless himself has played his dub-affected minimal records globally. Before he plays EC1 this Sunday, he put together a mix that highlights his evocative sound.

Dan Formless WYS! at Fabric Promo Mix (2018)

Yama Music returns this April with its fifth release, entitled ‘The Shin’yuu Various Artist’ EP and featuring material from Birdsmakingmachine, Locïc & Dan Formless, TIJN and of course Yama Music themselves.
Over the past few years the Yama Music imprint has been a platform for the artist of the same name to release this tripped-out take on micro house. Initially the project was launched via monthly tracks dropping on the duo’s bandcamp page before being snapped up by Yoyaku’s Varhat as part of the YY Distributon family and gaining a steady following of loyal fans ever since.
Here the label steps out of it’s usual format and welcomes an array of other talents onto its roster. First up to the plate is Barcelona’s Birdsmakingmachine who deliver ‘Moorbeet’, a chunky house cut fuelled by bumpy, shuffled drums, a choppy bass hook and winding, hypnotic synth work. Locïc & Dan Formless follow next with ‘No Laughin Matter’, retaining a similar aesthetic via a dusty, swinging drum groove and gritty bass running alongside airy dub chords, modulating synth effects and trippy spoken word vocals.
Yama Music open the flip-side with ‘Back Where You Belong’, stripping things back rhythmically and shining light on the duos innate ability to sculpt intricately intertwining synths, dreamy soundscapes and a dynamic feel. TIJN’s ‘Nikkee’ then closes the package, fusing bright ethereal stab sequences and rounded subs with skippy hats and organic drums.

Dan Formless launches Saboteurs Sanctuary as an auditory expression of his Forward Movement studio in London, UK.

An avid collector of music gear with a penchant for vintage units, Dan has scoured the globe collecting rare studio machinery in a quest to create unique sounds. His travels have added further layers to an already rich canvas, painted by DJ exploits across major cities in Europe and Asia, alongside residencies in London nightclubs.

Focusing on solo music production, Dan has dedicated the last few years to his creative process liberation whilst experimenting with drum machines, synthesizers and effects. He is now sharing the results of these sonic explorations, delving into the deeper sides of house, techno and electro whilst staying true to his dubby minimal roots.

The inaugural ‘Actions Speak Louder’ EP hits the ground running with two original tracks from Dan Formless and a stellar remix from Alex Celler. ‘Nitty Gritty’ is a peak time brain melter with sizzling synth lines and intricate drum patterns occupying the A-side. ‘4Q’ weaves together syncopated rhythms and deep rolling bass lines on the flip side. These are punctuated by playful call-and-response synth motifs to create an enigmatic after-hours slow burner. Alex Celler offers a glitchy ‘4Q’ remix with his undeniable flair for fusing infectious grooves with futuristic aural landscapes in a late night exploration of modular electronics.
