Written the day after the General Election of 2015, when greed, privilege and arrogance experienced an unexpected upsurge. Many of the lyrics were taken from the mouths of friends and people I heard interviewed on the radio. Disbelief. Shock. Disgust.

The Heart of this Country

This song was recorded at The White House in Kewstoke as part of 'Lanterns', released on German label Twah Records. It's set in the departure lounge of Heathrow airport, a grim place at the best of times, so it was nice to sing it in a hillside studio looking out over the sea. It's a song concerning appreciating what you've had but knowing it's time to move on. Easier said than done. My trusty sidekick Andy Webb is playing sterling cittern on it, & Phil Beer from Show of Hands popped in for a curry & ended up playing viola on it. As we finished the song, Martin the engineer left the tape running (yes, tape) and we captured Andy & Phil trading magic. We decided to leave it on...
