Array Access - NovaFuture Blog Mix June 2015

For this special edition of the Bloom Loops podcast, we're honoured to welcome Ario — founder and curator of the acclaimed Astral Industries label. Widely respected for its impeccable curation and timeless releases, Astral Industries has carved out a unique space in the world of ambient and experimental electronic music, with each release offering a meticulously crafted sonic journey.

In this recording, Ario brings that same curatorial sensibility to the decks, guiding us on a deep and expansive journey. It begins with a psychedelic abduction to another world, and as the mix gradually unfolds you emerge into an expansive world of progressive and vintage tech house before dissolving into deep, swirling tribal techno. True to Ario's refined aesthetic, it is a set that balances both introspection and propulsion. 

Recorded in Hong Kong, at a secret location, this mix is a teaser for the upcoming Rebloom event on Saturday 17th May—where Ario will return to the Rebloom booth for our birthday celebrations, with a special closing set.

Prague-based Axis Alpha makes his debut on the Monument Podcast with a scintillating session.

The Observatory - Mohemann

Continuum: a coherent whole characterized as a collection, sequence, or progression of values or elements varying by minute degrees.

As we keep navigating the musical constellation of The Continuum, we finally get to explore the sounds of an artist that we love and respect. Whether through co-founding Delayed or his “Sundays are for…” series… you should already know who we are talking about. We welcome Hue to our channel! 

Zach is a fellow music lover or maybe should I say obsessed. One of those that would and does cross the ocean to join events and discover new sounds. We met at Parallel last year, and I finally got to see him play (twice) last month. “Sundays are for…” is a true classic when it comes to ambient and soothing sounds, and many of you might have thought that this is what Hue is about… but let me tell you something, Fridays are for Hue too! 

The magic happened during the HOC x Delayed event at Laut last month. Hue on the closing slot, and the rest is history. We couldn’t be happier to host this recording, a masterclass from Hue on high energy selection, with an eclectic and diverse set. Walking the line between brainy and cheeky fun. One that left us with a smile in our face (and wishing the event went on for a couple hours more).

The Continuum: Hue

In a world hooked on instant likes and endless scrolls, where festival lineups are often built for clicks more than for ears, there’s still a place that pushes all that noise into the background. It sits somewhere off the grid, far from signal bars and push notifications, a pocket of the world where music still feels sacred.

You drive for hours into the Spanish mainland, trading highways for dusty roads and the smell of pine. And then you arrive at this gathering that’s not quite a festival. “Celebration” fits better. A celebration of music, connection, good energy and the rare joy of forgetting who’s “headlining” and just letting the sound carry you wherever it wants.

It’s friends, and friends of friends. People whose names you might see on record sleeves or festival flyers, but here they’re just part of the crowd. No green rooms, no special wristbands. No one’s counting bar sales or stressing over ticket numbers. It’s purely about the music, the real reason most of us fell in love with this scene in the first place.

From Friday afternoon to a very late Sunday, the music rolls non-stop. Daytime means dancing upright under blue skies. By night, things stretch into horizontal territory in a magical cabaña, where ambient and experimental sets ripple through the dark. Every DJ seems to arrive knowing precisely what belongs in their timeslot, crafting an arc so seamless you start questioning whether sleep is even worth it. Monday comes for you looking like your parachute didn’t open, but the grin on your face says otherwise. And the moment you leave, you’re already asking yourself how you’re supposed to wait a whole year to do it again.

This hidden corner of paradise is called Perpendicular Festival, or Perpen, for short, a brainchild of the crew behind Espacio Perpendicular in Madrid. 

This year was Delayed’s first time joining the adventure, and we came back determined to share pieces of what made it unforgettable. Over the next months, we’ll be rolling out sets that capture different moods and times of the weekend, hoping to transmit even a fraction of the magic in those woods.

We’re starting with a burst of energy: Madrid’s best-kept secret, Rachael, who took over on Sunday night. By then, the dancefloor was running on adrenaline alone, and as darkness settled in, she shifted things into high gear. After Sciama’s mind-bending trip, Rachael stepped up and commanded the space, unleashing a set where syncopated beats, UK breaks, and halftime, all collided in perfect chaos. The pine trees caught every echo. The crowd surged with new life. It was one of those sets that reminds you why underground music scenes will always survive and why you stay awake just a few hours longer even when your legs are begging for mercy.

Influenced by sounds such as bebop or progressive psychedelic rock and focused on experimental and ambient music rather than clubbing in its beginnings, Pharma later delved into deep and immersive sound, creating an amalgam that has been interconnected over time to finally take shape in both listening and clubbing sets with a specific musical discourse in each context, connected to dub, trippy sounds and ambient landscapes, where the density between lights and shadows promotes mental activity that prevails over physical activity.

Solenoid Radio #031 - Array Access - [ Techno ]

Array Access evolves between noisy, techno and/or ambient sounds. Passionate about art, aesthetic and code, he's discrete, almost cryptic at times - letting his concepts showing through his work and do the talking. We even the more appreciate him delivering a more experimental, special mix and answering some of our questions. When did you start producing? What was the reason for it ?
 
I started about 6y. ago. At that time I was getting started with DJing and got more and more interested in different kinds of electronic music. Soon I realized producing my own music would give me far more possibilities to express myself, what’s going on inside of me, without getting too specific either with the reasons behind it.

How would you depict your work ?
There are a few constants in my music, such as distortion, harshness, sustained pad sounds, loads of reverb, many pitched down and slowed down sounds, lots of noise and mud. Everything remains a bit hidden in the mist. These are just sound characteristics. Everything else depends on what I feel like. I only limit myself in terms of the tools I use. Other than that there are no rules. I think there’s a lot of melancholia in my music. At least this is what people tell me.

I noticed you've got some really nice productions still unsigned. How come we don't see more of them being released ?
I feel like I’m still at the beginning of everything, slowly building my musical identity. Until I don’t feel like I’ve reached a certain point I don’t want to enforce anything to be released just for the sake of releasing and staying relevant in order to get gigs. There’s so much music out there already. I don’t want to add to all the noise. I want to raise my voice once I found it. Maybe that i'll never happen. So be it. At the end of the day to me creating music is just a way of being. Releases are secondary.

Any plan or project you want to talk about ?
I’m involved in an art project i can't give too much details about. There will be a performance next year. Besides that the next Ressort Imprint compilation will feature a track of mine and there's another release scheduled for early 2017 on another label. For the next couple of months I’ll be busy with the first other (more) arty project.

Anythg you 'regret' to this day? 
Not having continued learning an instrument and getting a proper musical education. I dropped learning the keyboard when I was about 14 because I was lazy as fuck. I regret that.

Smthg you're proud of ?
Neither having neglected my studies nor my music. I’m passionate about both programming and creating music. Actually both of them require lots of creativity. I love doing both.
