The enigmatic duo, Italoboyz, bring their distinct sound to Crosstown Rebels, and invite Crosstown affiliate Yulia Niko to provide the remix. 

Marco Donato, one half of Italoboyz, describes the making of the track as being “very spontaneous. I produced this track alone in a very Italoboyz style”. Of the digital only track, 5.05 AM, produced alongside Blind Minded, he explains that they’d “been experimenting with guitars and pedals, and lots of effects and distortions. Big up to Blind Minded for the structure and the idea behind this track, his contribution on this is invaluable”.

The original cut of Midnight Summer Dream is a fourteen minute epic journey through time and space. The track is dark and dreamy with Durant’s tripped out vocals entwined with uplifting, cosmic arpeggios. Yulia Niko develops a deeper bassline on her take- stripped back with a grungier style. 5.05 AM, produced alongside Blind Minded employs an extended intro with cinematic and mysterious sonic twists and turns.

Italoboyz, the duo of Marco Donato and Federico Marton, have been on a musical voyage since 2002. They have released over a hundred tracks for revered imprints including VIVa Music, Moon Harbour and Circus. In 2012 they launched their seminal label Superfiction, alongside Blind Minded, with the aim to create a movement. Yulia Niko has released on esteemed labels such as Get Physical, Plant74 and MATTER+, In 2017 Mixmag named her as one of their ‘20 Artists To Know Who Are Rising From The Underground’. Yulia also recently launched her vinyl only imprint, TochnoTechno.

Future Flashbacks is an escalating slab of dark cosmic slo-mo disco that draws inspiration from pantheon of sources, including The Unknown Cases' Masimbabele, Lindstrom, Diskjokke, Billy Idol and Andrew Weatherall's A Love From Outer Space series. Driven power chords, rolling multi-layered bass lines, trippy vocal samples, 80s-tinged guitar licks and a healthy dose of acid power this chugger through to an arpeggiated breakdown that builds to a cosmic crescendo that drops to bring all the elements back together.

Gouranga have managed to put together this EP with some seriously killer remixes. I've been a fan of James Rod and Rune Lindbaek's studio work for many years and I'm thrilled that these class acts have worked their cosmic magic with such great results! It's also great to hear the Gouranga Clan's take on Future Flashbacks – badass!

Production notes: This was a project that started life several years ago as an experiment when making the transition from Logic to Ableton. It was shelved for a few years while I worked on other projects and was resurrected when I found out I was due to become a father in a few months' time, so I wanted to get one last tune finished, and Flashbacks provided the perfect base. I upgraded many of the original synth and bass parts with newly acquired analogue synthesisers, recorded the guitar parts and beefed up the acid. Some of the original percussion parts remain, though have been twisted out of all recognition by running them through a series of distortion units, analogue delays and various other pieces of outboard gear. The breakdown originally consisted of a blues-rock style organ riff, which was pared back to more of a pad, but didn't sit well with the new sound the track had acquired, so it was replaced by a whirling italo-cosmic arpeggiator part played on a Sequential Circuits Prophet 6 that was immensely fun to record live.

Get Physical and Afro Acid come together for a heavyweight musical selection, as scene godfather DJ Pierre, as well as Chris Liebing, remix a classic track produced by American giant Roland Clark and Get Physical creative director, Roland Leesker. 

This outstanding package will be getting as exclusive Bandcamp only release on Get Physical’s store, with a wider release planned on DJ Pierre’s Afro Acid label in September. The record sees this diverse collection of widely acclaimed and hugely influential artists come together as one for a record that expresses their belief in love and unity. 

The release opens with the original, a dark, pulsating tune that straddles the house and techno divide with a bendy bassline, acid stabs and a tribal groove that is finished off with an iconic vocal. The first remix is from long time Chicago giant, Phuture founding member and Wild Pitch creator DJ Pierre. His remix is a big loopy disco jam, with soul bursting out of the colourful grooves, splashes of cymbal and horn and string sounds that get you feeling good. Mute artist and long-time dark techno mainstay Chris Liebing then comes through with a driving remix built on supple drum programming. It grows in stature, becoming ever more unhinged and is sure to blow any dance floor apart for years to come. 

Finally, we have DJ Pierre’s iconic Phuture project take the reins with an epic 10 minute plus mix of acid, rolling percussion and building tension. This is a welcome return from Phuture who have plans for a debut album in 2021. 

These are seminal tracks that will always sound vital in any context or era.

Buenos Aires talent Adrian Hour lands on Get Physical with a pair of superb tracks that prove why he is one of South America’s brightest stars.
 
Having really established himself over the last couple of years, he has gone on to be a regular in the upper echelons of the Beatport chart. As a Dj he is no stranger to high profile gigs at places like BPM Festival and brings plenty of Latin flare to his productions. 

He opens up this fine EP with ‘Conga’, a dark and humid house track that has a chunky tribal groove. Loose percussion is sprinkled over the top and jangling chords and bright pads eventually transform it into a more airy and feel good tune with jazzy overtones that will lift the spirits. 

Keeping up the musical house vibes is the expertly lush ‘Soul&Soul’. This one is filled with a constant sense of tension as it builds through loopy drums and freewheeling disco melodies that bring real joy. Once the track drops, feet will stomp and fists will pump making for a perfectly bubbly party atmosphere. 

These are two subtly feel good house tunes that are imbued with plenty of musical emotion.
