Description

Sometime after endless raves, clubs, dance parties, warehouse parties, house parties, outdoor parties, festivals & life. Here we are. 

The influence of deep house is the key to the sound I play, with dubs, techno, breaking down, deep, a little shimmy, a dust of disco and a muscle load of bass. 

Mostly its about history, deep history, a spiritual history with dance floors where the music makes your body move and your spirit be free.

I have been selecting & playing music, putting on parties and generally being in love with everything Dj related since about 1991. Over the years I have operated under several pseudonyms; misda nil, Turnstyle and now Hard Lee. 

I also produce live techno & experimental music as Box Banter and Occsionals.

Christchurch, New Zealand is my home town. Over the years I have spent considerable time in Nelson, Wellington, Dunedin and Queenstown. I have always been involved with the Dj & Dance scene where ever I go and have an abiding love for clubs, parties and the music culture the drives it all. 

Its mostly a true story that I was there at the beginning of much of what we know of the dance scene in New Zealand today.

But I'm still here today for the same reasons I first started. A wonderful curious love for dance music, Dj culture, sound systems and the nightlife.

Chachi is a name that has quickly become synonymous with Christchurch Drum and Bass since he started to emerge on the scene in 2009. Having been introduced to Drum and Bass in while living in Wellington during 2006, upon his return to Christchurch in 2007 he saved up some money, bought some Turntables and spent countless hours digging crates and spinning tunes. In a time when Christchurch was dominated by dark and heavy Neuro drum and bass, Chachi came out playing a variety of music, first with lush and rolling Liquid and later to the upfront Jump Up sound that he would become known for. 
Playing something different from the rest of the pack helped Chachi catch the attention of various promoters including Rufio from local DJ/Promotion team Urban Notion (now Dubstep dons Truth) and soon after he was playing local nights at clubs in Christchurch such as Double Happy, The Bedford, and Grafitti White - culminating in a closing set at the legendary Ministry Night Club after Andy C and MC GQ in 2010 - the last time Andy C ever played at Ministry before its eventual destruction. Since then Chachi has supported Andy C a further two times, as well as playing support for a variety of local and international artists such as DJ Hype, The Upbeats, TC, Trei, State of Mind, Futurebound, Noisia, DC Breaks, Artificial Intelligence, Danny Byrd, Black Sun Empire, Total Science, Commix and plenty more. 2015 sees Chachi pushing his sound to the next level, focusing on the full spectrum of Drum and Bass to give listeners and ravers a complete picture of the music he loves so much. Expect nothing less than absolute quality Drum and Bass with relentless, quick-fire mixing on 2 or 3 decks when Chachi is on the stage. 
In 2010, Chachi took over the Urban Notion Radio Show on local radio station RDU 98.5FM, a show that has been a staple of the Christchurch DnB scene's Saturday night routine. Tune in Saturday nights from 7:30 to 9:30PM (NZT) on 98.5FM or www.rdu.org.nz to get involved!

Ulterior Motive are at the top of their game. Their debut album ‘The
Fourth Wall’ has been exceptionally well received by press and fans
alike, with award nominations and UK top 40 chart success following
its release. At the end of 2014 the album regularly appeared
within top 10 lists across all genres, a triumph for all
concerned.

As DJs Ulterior Motive have performed at festivals and clubs across
the globe to rapturous audiences, with the pair becoming known for
their DJ sets from London to Colombia.

the cream of Drum & Bass producers and have been requested as
sound designers for forthcoming projects in new media.
