One of those times where good ingredients don’t add together.  The instrumental was good, the vocals were good, but both together didn’t gel well together.  So here’s the instrumental, which we quite like on it’s own!

Learning All The Time (Instrumental)

Pop Dance track we did in 1997.  One of our first really good tracks with proper vocals, and one of the last tracks we did with 100% all real hardware synths instead of VSTi's.  90% of the track is Roland XP50, with some wonderful denny jaeger tremolo string overdubs from my old Akai S6000.  The vocals were initially recorded on my old digidesign session 8, but then put into Soundforge Acid and autotuned (a somewhat odd mix of technology).  

Life is so much easier and cheaper with Cubase and VSTi's, but maybe not as fun.

High High UltraFine

A track I put together to try out my new Core i7 PC and plugins.  Lexicon just released proper plugin reverb and the Lex plate is used on the lead synth and all over this track.  Prior to this I mostly used ClassicVerb (TC Powercore) for my verb, which is about as close as you used to get to Lexicon for VST plugins.  

The instruments are mostly Nexus and Vanguard.  Omnisphere for the normal and gated pads.  

Trance Demo

Finding good vocalists is difficult and over the years we've worked hard to find good vocalists for our music.  (If you're a great vocalist, send me a note, we'd love to hear from you!)

We've received thousands and thousands of demos too.  Some are amateurish and that's ok, everyone has to start somewhere.  But then there are demos that are obviously done by people long on experience and short on talent.  This track is my absolute favorite bad demo of all time.


Worst vocal demo we got...ever!

Here's a fun track we did where I reworked a number of PWL style production elements into an existing track.  If you're a fan of SAW then you'll recognize a few things here:

1) Those famous SAW toms
2) TR-727 percusion - featured on > 99% of all SAW records ever made!
3) SAW 3 closed hats, 1 open pattern
4) Rick shaker-clap pattern
5) triplet high hat pattern in verse (princess)
6) DX-7 chord with 3 octave pitch bends & modulation (mel & kim - that's the way it is)
7) Matt Aitken style guitar riff (panned hard left)
8) DX-7 clav sound (metalic instrument doing octaves panned hard right) - i.e. Kylie
9) PPG sounds (bells & vox) - PPG was used in dead or alive and earlier tracks - has a raw quality


80s instrumental (PWL style)

Euro 6 because it was the 6th song in a eurodance song writing marathon.  We couldn't find a suitable singer so it never got finished with lyrics.  But I always liked the instrumental.
