2012 will be a year for new faces on the boe release schedule and first up is Professor Inc.; a producer from Paris who has taken inspiration from the masters of the early dub house and techno sounds, incorporating samples borrowed from the days of floppy-disk sharing to create fresh new soundscapes with a very modern feel. He delivers a 4 track EP of stripped back house with complex peripheral textures and effects; from the evolving strings and moving sub bass of Path Illumination and VTM Beos Tribute to the sinister echoes and delayed drums of Elements Combined and Essence Dub.

Path Illumination is a bass heavy string work out with a spoken word from Professor Inc. himself, promoting the underground and what it stands for.  The looped string pattern is locked in for the majority of the cut as Professor Inc.’s voice cuts through the mix. The strings then open up into a sublime orchestral melody that rains down of the thump of the bass and the snap of the hats and snares. It’s France meets Detroit in the most elegant of rendezvous.

The second track on the EP is a tribute to an underground legend on the early sample-sharing scene. VTM Beos Tribute is a stripped back house cut with a warm floating bass and snappy hats and snares. It’s a rolling ride until the track breaks out with a glorious string melody and beautiful finale for what would be a great end of night track.

Elements Combined is a true work of art in terms of engineering; multiple layered percussion elements bounce and dot around the aural planes, blanketing a chunky 4/4 beat and sub bass in a stereo sensuality. Influenced by the sounds of Basic Channel this isn’t an imitation of the usual dub sounds, it’s something entirely new and original leaning more towards a house sound.

Essence Dub starts where Elements Combined left off; sweeping pads, flanged drums and echoed vocals ping pong over an industrial beat. With its subtle intro it’s a great opener to a peak set for those who want to start of dark and nasty.
