If you've been paying attention to Omegaman over the past few years, you have seen him flexing his ska, rocksteady and reggae skills, often featuring incredible vocalists and guest musicians on his tracks. Omegaman recently produced a side project for the teen cancer awareness fundraiser The Specialized Project (UK) / SpecialOzd (AU), and the results are these two incredible cover tunes. Again, utilizing his ska background and some of Aussie's finest musicians and vocalists to reinterpret two classic tunes from the late 1970s.

The Specials big hit from 1979, “A Message To You Rudy”, has been tweaked with a swinging backbeat and the sweet sounds of Sydney vocalist Lucy Vella. Adding some serious ska credentials to the track is a killer brass arrangement by The Skastards and the whole band itself is a virtual Ska all-star ensemble. Always a crowd favorite, this version of Message To You does not disappoint, and will get even the jaded rudeboys shufflin.

The second track covered is a bit more obscure, the Aussie New Wave band Mental As Anything's hit tune “If You Leave Me (Can I Come Too?).” This cover version outdoes the original by featuring Patou of Melbourne Ska Orchestra, Allniters & Club Ska on vocals. The track itself is boosted up to a surf 'n' ska type of groove with skanking guitars and crisp drum breaks. The end result is a much more upbeat and optimistic tune than the original, Can I Come Too?

Just in time for Aussie summer, these tracks are perfect for surf camp, road trips, house parties and everything in between. The last few years gave Omegaman the opportunity to collaborate with musicians and vocalists around the globe, and together they have explored a Universal Rhythm. Marc Scully has been at work in his Studio 57 Recording laboratory, working with musicians from the US, Canada, and Australia on this release.

First up is longtime Omegaman vocalist and collaborator, the legend himself Pat “Patou” Powell, who was recently the subject of a documentary.  This track has the characteristic Omegaman breakbeats, but with some seriously twang'ing guitars and a rudeboy in the outback feel. The Traveller is great vibe, you can just imagine the open road and wind blowing in your face.

After that wild ride comes the smooth, East of the River Nile mood of The Sands of Time, featuring Vancouver's own Emily Molloy on vocals. You might have heard Emily recently on Fort Knox Five's Playin' With Fire, or from one of the many BC rock bands she has fronted.  She brings her wide range and a seductive energy to the track, itself another voyage.

Omegaman really hits his stride on the third track, Rose Coloured Glasses, which evokes Portishead and James Bond all in one.  This one has Rob Myers of Thievery Corporation and Fort Knox Five wailing away on lead guitar. And the silky chanteuse-like vocals are by Lily Lindsay, a lifelong singer-songwriter from Sydney with her own band Maisie's Vacation.

To finish this global excursion is French vocalist Léa Villani, with her upbeat dance-pop sound. Singing in French, her snappy and sweet vocals are perfect on top of Omegaman's downtempo breakbeats.  You can just image yourself riding a Vespa, headed to the beach for the day and feeling the positivity in the air, this is feel good music for sure.

Omegaman returns to Fort Knox Recordings with some brand new funk he has cooked up in his S57 Studios outside of Sydney, Australia.  For this foray, he enlists the powerful rock-n-soul vocals of Emily Molloy who has previously been featured on both Fort Knox Five and Omegaman songs, this being her third on the label.  Together these two have conjured a “hands in the air” booty shaking track that will definitely “Bring Back The Funk.” 

Omegaman brings his decades of experience to the table crafting an infectious groove built on a driving backbeat which is nicely layered with sassy horns and a steady retro “Chic” influenced wah-wah guitar.  Molloy’s soulful and sultry vocals play off the funky vibes and taunt you onto the dance floor as she channels her best Chaka Khan. “The funk will make it better and lift you higher and higher.” The end result is a delicious modern take on a 70s funk track with a little dose of disco thrown in for good measure! 

Together Omegaman and Emily Molloy have created a funky call to arms, so get on down and boogie to this fat slice of funk.  Take note DJs, this tune is guaranteed to put the glide in your stride, and the dip in your hip.  So get hip to it, ya dig? Hot on the heels of his recent single “Bring Back The Funk” featuring Emily Molloy, Omegaman returns with “Gonna Be Alright” a soul funk, horn heavy party tune. This track began over a decade ago as a DJ mash-up and Omegaman has been dreaming of rebuilding and creating his own original version since then. The result is a feel good stepper featuring Aussie reggae superstar Patou and the soulful Katherine Vavahea. 

Omegaman’s production style can be heard in the retro guitar chords and crisp breakbeat layered with tons of live vintage instrumentation. With the soulful chant-like vocals by Patou playing off of Katherines “take-em-to-church” call and answer, the track grooves and bounces with a nod to 70s disco funk mashed up with a some 90’s big beat. Working in the studio with Omegaman were some of Sydney’s finest musicians, and singers, including Rhys Franklin, CJ Toop, James Swanson, and Paul Murchison, who all added their flavor to this funky stomper of a track.  Its gonna be alright!

For those that don’t know Pat “Patou” Powell is a legendary Australian musician, of Jamaican descent, who manages to be in 15 bands spread out between Sydney and Melbourne.  He was recently featured in his own Documentary “In Black & White”, covering his more than four decades in the Music industry.  Omegaman has worked closely with the accomplished vocalist on a number of creative projects and really enjoy collaborating together. Known as Sydney’s own soulful songstress, Katherine Vavahea tackles relevant cultural and environmental issues in her music. She and Marc have teamed up for several projects over the last decade with Omegaman producing her album “Mama’s Soul Kitchen.” and featuring her vocals on his Rocksteady EP released almost five years ago on Fort Knox Recordings.

Bring Back The Funk exploded on the scene with it’s groovy, funky disco vibes and Emily Malloy’s soulful and sultry vocals. The track was featured in many DJ sets, mixes, radio shows and even made it to Juno Download’s Recommended Funk of the Month. How do you top that? You get some ultra funky Australian remixers to flip the script.

The past few years have seen a flurry of new releases and remixes by Perth based producer Pecoe. He brings his DJ experience to the table and injects a bit more energy into Bring Back The Funk incorporating some great pianos and percussion. He’s not afraid to chop-up Emilys vocals either, teasing us with some choice samples before letting it drop. The end result is smoking hot and will definitely make booty shake!

Omegaman also tapped fellow Sydney DJ and producer Kris Ramea to remix the track, and he delivers a summertime funky house remix. Bring Back The Funk gets the full disco house treatment here, serving those hand in the air pianos riding on rolling bongos and Malloy’s uplifting diva vocals. And you don’t stop and you wont stop! Hot on the heels of the Bring Back the Funk Remixed single comes a blistering trio of remixes of Omegaman’s disco soul funk jam Gonna Be alright.

The connections and collaborations between All Good Funk Alliance and Omegaman go all the way to the beginning, and the two artists mutual appreciation of all things funky is encapsulated in this remix. AGFA have rebuilt the track from the ground up, adding some crisp synth work, electro effects, beefed up drums and a sick boogie-on-down rollout to the end. This remix takes the retro funky disco grooves of the original and transforms them into a DISCOTRON 3000 from the future!

The second remix on this single is by Budapest’s own DJ Clairvo, who has done a few remixes on Fort Knox Recordings over the years. This vocal heavy remix highlights the soaring vocals of Katherine Vavahea sitting on top of a bed super funkdafied keys, horns and percussion. This is one of those rare remixes that digs deep into the stems, and pulls out something entirely different than the original composition, A+ grade for creativity here. Mama’s here to testify, “it’ll be alright, it’ll be alright”.

Earlier this spring Omegaman caused quite a stir releasing two back to back super fire singles, Bring Back The Funk and Gonna Be Alright, and then followed that up dropping a pair of booty shaking remix singles! To top it off, we have saved two heaters from Mr. Doris and Lakeshore Drive to wrap up the series!

Mr. Doris of Ibiza is up first and has stripped the track down to its funky core. Get ready for tambourines, steady clapping and some holy organs propelling the track. Mr. Doris brings his Balearic experience to the table here as disco elements blend with moments of deep tribal beats, gospel and funk. The remix feels almost like you are at an after hours party in Ibiza hanging with old friends and feeling it as the sun starts to rise!

The creative scene of British Columbia in Canada has given us so many great musicians, DJs, producers and vocalists and now to that list we add Lakeshore Drive. The duo doesn’t hold anything back with this remix, starting us off with some, groovy organs, funky wah guitars and horn stabs and then taking us on a glitched-out ride to the funky side. Earlier this year Omegaman dropped the Babylon Don't Interfere EP, which was an experiment into global reggae grooves as he collaborated with vocalists Desi Hyson and Edy Blu.  The result was two tracks of funky reggae and tropical soul, both begging to be remixed for the dancefloor. Reworking Omegaman's tunes are none other than Ornette Hawkins from Washington, DC, the British DJ Maars who now lives in Australia and DJ Clairvo from Budapest.  The vibes are coming in from around the globe on this one, taking you on a wild  ride through drum'n'bass, funk and breakbeat.

First up is the DC production duo Ornette Hawkins and their remix of Babylon Don't Interfere featuring vocals by Desi Hyson.  Ornette Hawkins is Marc Blackwood and Maxwell Houston, and the duo has already been featured on Doc Scott's 31 Records and both are busy with their own drum'n'bass, jazz and funk endeavors.  The remix comes through big, bad and heavy! Which is best when it comes to amen breaks.  Desi's vocals are chopped up and even timestretched for great ragga effect, with dubby samples throughout.  This one is meant to be heard loud, as the horns float in and out over a very heavy bassline, get ready for some bloodclot jungle business here.

Next up is DJ Maars who characteristically drops the bass and kicks the beats, he's got the goods.  The DJ Maars remix is a complete reinterpretation of the original and we love it, both groovy and spacey, but pumping enough for the dancefloor.  Edy Blu's vocals sound great over these beefed up hip-hop breaks, washing synths and a warped bassline.  The result is uptempo Big Beat Soul and it is catchy as hell.

Rounding out the release is a second remix of The Happy Ending Whisper Song, this time by DJ Clairvo of Mustbeat Crew and Lack Jemmon.  Clairvo rebuilds the tune around a breakbeat core, Edy Blu's vocals are pitched up and get the sample treatment throughout.  As the track builds up and breaks down, there's enough dubby and glitched out effects to please all the heads.  This track will do damage on the dancefloor with its big bass drops and sweet vocals, so bring it on.

Omegaman is back with the sounds of summer! Sydney based   producer, DJ and engineer Omegaman has put together this blinding  5-track Lovers Rocksteady EP which features some of Australia's hottest vocalists and musicians.   Always with an ear to that classic Jamaican rocksteady formula, Omegaman has assembled an all star cast to bring those long awaited good vibes, just in time for Aussie summer.

First up is Fool Fool Tings, a classic ska scorcher to get the party started. This track features Patou, who has recorded previous tracks with Omegaman already released on Fort Knox Recordings. Hailing from legendary outfits like the Melbourne Ska Orchestra, Allniters and Club Ska, Patou knows his way around a skanking beat. Sublime horns from young newcomers The Ska-stards really lift the track into the stratosphere, as the relentless and upbeat head-nodding beats carry the track.

The Lovers Rocksteady EP features a number of female vocalists, and on Forever You & Me we are treated to the lovers rock melodies of Courtney Rachel. Now calling Australia home, this UK ex-pat is in the neo-soul group The Baldwins. She exudes confidence and brings her vocal chops to the table with an irresistible hook. You can just feel the late afternoon sun on your face and taste the salty sea air as Forever You & Me transports the listener to your favorite beach.

Omegaman has pulled out all the stops and crafted his own anthemic tune on Omega Rocksteady. Waistlines will be bubbling to these basslines, as the horns take it to the bridge. The real highlights here are the three vocalists featured; Patou, Katherine Vavahea and Tess Aboud. Its a rocksteady summer anthem and the vocalists gel together so well, you just wanna join the party and throw down.

It's back to the lovers rock vibes with There She Goes, an emotional tune with pop sensibilities. If vocalist C-Major sounds familiar, thats because he appeared twice on The Voice Australia, as well front his own group Veneno. Summer love invariably leads to a break-up or two, and There She Goes is that perfect bitter-sweet tune, “and when she's gone, there ain't no stopping her.” Been there, done that.

Omegaman has saved one of the strongest tracks for the final entry on this release. Strap in, put on your sunglasses and get ready to Fly with Isis Ashton and Alpha Mama. These two Sydney based ladies bring their incomparable vocal skills to bear on this sweet, uplifting rocksteady tune. Following the release of Mustafa Akbar’s posthumous Attracted EP, Fort Knox Recordings assembled a hit squad of producers who’d worked closely with Mustafa over his storied career to remix his final tracks. All of the producers reported back that the process took on a special vibration, as Mustafa’s incomparable vocals filled their studios once again. These six remixes are not only each artist’s reinterpretation of Mustafa’s tracks, but also represent a final opportunity to collaborate with their fallen brother.

Fort Knox Five’s remix of “Resist” is all about that retro, g-funk, mid-tempo, Disco vibe, complete with horns, funky guitars and slinky synths that drip with that Mothership swagger. Crisp and poppin’ from the first beat, Mustafa’s social justice lyrics run the track with a call to action reminiscent of the Fort Knox Five classic “Funk 4 Peace.” All Good Funk Alliance infuse their remix of “Whatcha Gwan Do” with choppy synths and crisp stabs on top of their signature Latin percussion, rinsed out with a futuristic, electro-funk ending. AGFA has engineered this one for the dance floor with multiple builds, Mustafa’s falsetto chorus, and a serious analog organ breakdown that culminates with Ralph Real’s rhymes pushing the track over the top. Big beats and heavy bass dominate Qdup’s remix of “The Likes” which offers a distinctly West Coast, g-funk vibe throughout. Qdup and Mustafa made quite a few club bangers over the years, and this one feels like a proper floor-burner with a big payoff halfway through.

The title track gets a Moombahton treatment courtesy of Empresarios, featuring Javier Miranda’s congas and vocal stabs throughout. Set to a pulsing House beat with trippy washes and dub effects, we are sure Mustafa would’ve loved the upbeat dance energy on this one! As the first Fort Knox Artist to record Mustafa, Thunderball were immedi- ately drawn to rework “Runnin’ Away” into a drum’n’bass soul stepper. Mustafa’s vocal delivery is perfect atop the rolling, liquid bassline and piano stabs, creating a head-nodding D&B love song. An accomplished musician in his own right, sound engineer and producer Holmes Ives both toured with Mustafa and mixed many of his tunes over the years. On his “Resist” remix, Ives has stripped down the track adding layers of shimmering synths that let the vocals sparkle and sail over a slow and heavy Moombahton beat.

Released a year after his sudden passing, this EP is both a tribute to Mustafa’s legacy and a musical send-off to a collaborator, band member and friend. On Attracted Remixed Mustafa’s voice is given one last chance to grace the genres of Funk, House, Breaks and Drum’n’Bass. Gone, but never forgotten, Mustafa Akbar has left a permanent impres- sion on our hearts, and his lyrics will continue to inspire many around the world. All of the producers reported back that the process took on a special vibration, as Mustafa’s incomparable vocals filled their studios once again. These six remixes are not only each artist’s reinterpretation of Mustafa’s tracks, but also represent a final opportunity to collaborate with their fallen brother.

Fort Knox Five’s remix of “Resist” is all about that retro, g-funk, mid-tempo, Disco vibe, complete with horns, funky guitars and slinky synths that drip with that Mothership swagger. Crisp and poppin’ from the first beat, Mustafa’s social justice lyrics run the track with a call to action reminiscent of the Fort Knox Five classic “Funk 4 Peace.” All Good Funk Alliance infuse their remix of “Whatcha Gwan Do” with choppy synths and crisp stabs on top of their signature Latin percussion, rinsed out with a futuristic, electro-funk ending. AGFA has engineered this one for the dance floor with multiple builds, Mustafa’s falsetto chorus, and a serious analog organ breakdown that culminates with Ralph Real’s rhymes pushing the track over the top. Big beats and heavy bass dominate Qdup’s remix of “The Likes” which offers a distinctly West Coast, g-funk vibe throughout. Qdup and Mustafa made quite a few club bangers over the years, and this one feels like a proper floor-burner with a big payoff halfway through.

The title track gets a Moombahton treatment courtesy of Empresarios, featuring Javier Miranda’s congas and vocal stabs throughout. Set to a pulsing House beat with trippy washes and dub effects, we are sure Mustafa would’ve loved the upbeat dance energy on this one! As the first Fort Knox Artist to record Mustafa, Thunderball were immedi- ately drawn to rework “Runnin’ Away” into a drum’n’bass soul stepper. Mustafa’s vocal delivery is perfect atop the rolling, liquid bassline and piano stabs, creating a head-nodding D&B love song. An accomplished musician in his own right, sound engineer and producer Holmes Ives both toured with Mustafa and mixed many of his tunes over the years. On his “Resist” remix, Ives has stripped down the track adding layers of shimmering synths that let the vocals sparkle and sail over a slow and heavy Moombahton beat.

Released a year after his sudden passing, this EP is both a tribute to Mustafa’s legacy and a musical send-off to a collaborator, band member and friend. On Attracted Remixed Mustafa’s voice is given one last chance to grace the genres of Funk, House, Breaks and Drum’n’Bass. Gone, but never forgotten, Mustafa Akbar has left a permanent impres- sion on our hearts, and his lyrics will continue to inspire many around the world. As Mu would say, give thanks to the Most High!

“Caught with your hands in the cookie jar, and now you wanna go and start a war”. As if 2020 hasn't been challenging enough, all over the globe the Politics of Greed are all too common, on every continent. It's time to stand up to these corrupt politicians whose agendas are dictated by pharmacological and petrochemical corporations, and the military-industrial complex they serve. Enough is enough!

Australian producer Omegaman has teamed up with the Kromanauts of Washington, DC to create a timely protest anthem. The message is delivered via a funky reggae tune built with fat, punchy drums that really set the pace. Omegaman himself laid down a dubby bass-line, which Marty Fabok of Allniters & Ozskas augments nicely with his skankin' guitars. Enter the Kromanauts, and up first is Kush el-Amin who adds more fresh guitar chords and licks. And of course there's Kanjia Kroma aka Juku, who adds his piercing lyrics and smooth flow to round out the track.

Included with the release is a steppin' drum'n'bass remix by Bristol based producer Waggles, and its just perfect! Precise drum programming is joined by booming basslines that roll out for the duration of the track. The uptempo d&b vibes are perfect for Juku's vocals, and the result is a firing ragga jungle tune that will do damage to any dancefloor. Instrumentals of both tracks are also included.

Last December saw Omegaman release the Lovers Rocksteady EP just in time for Australian Summer fun in the sun.  The EP featured all Australian vocalists and was a big hit on the radio waves and beaches around the world.  Omegaman got some of those tracks remixed and has included the instrumental versions of the original tracks as well, available for the first time. 

Omegaman tapped a range of producers from around the globe for these remixes, including Lakeshore Drive from British Columbia, Canada.  Lakeshore Drive added some funky beats and breaks, and a nice skankin' guitar line to Forever You & Me featuring Courtney Rachel.  This laid back summer anthem now has some dancefloor legs, so don't be surprised if you see the lovers start moving and grooving.  The Swiss mad beat scientist PulpFusion has remixed Fly featuring vocals by Isis Ashton & Alpha Mama.  PulpFusion has added real depth with a lush soundscape of strings, piano and very smooth percussion. He has transformed a very light reggae-pop song into a deeper, more thoughtful downtempo groove track, wow!

Clocking in from Mannheim, Germany is Freethinker Funk Essence who also got to remix Forever You & Me, who also funked up the track into a more robust dance tune.  Freethinker Funk Essence has really pumped up the horns, beefed up the breaks and even added a percussion breakdown in the middle.  The result is a fun and lively reggae funk tune that will also work well at pool parties and beach gatherings.  Rounding out the release is Sydney based house music DJ and producer Kris Ramea, who remixed There She Goes featuring C Major.  He has added a very suave 6am house beat, accentuating piano lines, a big build in the middle and a nice house workout in the second half. 

In addition to these four great remixes, this release includes the remix instrumentals and the unreleased instrumental mixes of the original five tracks released on the Rocksteady EP.  Omegaman has been working hard and cranking out new material, and once again delivers the sounds of Aussie Summer just in time for all the heads.  Peter Metro of MetroCo has done the artwork for Omegaman once again, and his designs really capture the vibe of this release.

After the highly successful release of last year's “Politics of Greed”, Omegaman is back with another rebellious protest song, a take on world affairs in 2021.  For “Rebel Rocker”, Omegaman has brought in Nigerian born vocalist Ikenna, and the legendary guitarist of The Specials, Roddy Radiation.  “The system made me a Rebel Rocker,” and this one is all about the systemic corruption, lies, and war mongering by governments around the globe, which has forced the downtrodden to start pushing back. The searing vocals of Ikenna deliver the message true, and straight from the heart.

Not only does Rebel Rocker feature the extra Special guest Roddy Radiation on lead guitar, but also Marty Fabok of the Allniters and Ozkas on rhythm guitar.  And the horns section is on loan from The Skastards, making this a global collaboration! The tune really hits home with a massive line-up of live instrumentation, drums, bass, layered guitars, keys, horns, and an ocean of vocals.  All of these pieces come together brilliantly to create a groovy ska protest song for the modern era, complete with a wailing guitar solo by Roddy!

While Omegaman's original is one for the head-nodding rudeboy massive, Qdup was brought on to increase the pressure and make a remix for the dance floor.  Without overdoing it, Qdup deftly warps the bassline, adds some glitched out effects and kicks up the tempo.  This is party with a purpose, and Qdup's trademark funky beats will get even the most jaded punters dancing and skanking about! The world is fed up with the status quo, and this remix is the perfect anthem to pump up the massive. Instrumentals of both tracks are included with this release.
