FS 017 . Minimal Dub House (Husa Sounds)

My debut track after deciding to pursue my passion for music and performing at 40 years old.

To be able to reach this point, a mindset change needed to happen, a mindset free from fear to become who I am meant to be.

This track had around 80 different versions before my shift in mindset.

After my decision, I was forced to recreate it from scratch as my previous laptop was stolen (yup the universe at it's finest)

Now, this version was created with a "Free State" mindset, just sounds that were decided by my core (instincts)

This is "The Journey", where I mute all fears to become who I am meant to be and never look back.

It was a lot of fun jamming with my boi Ced. It's been so long since we've been trying to do this, so we're happy its done :)

We weren't quite sure what vibe to do, so we started by selecting one track each, then it turned out to be a "Deep House" with "Dub" influences.

I jammed a bit with my guitar, still trying to find the good balance between adding layers and not really changing the vibe the track was intended to have. Practice makes perfect ;)

When you “Free Your Mind”, everything changes, how you think, act, say and feel. This has a collateral effect of a lot of aspects of your life, from relationships, loved ones, and career. It’s vital that you keep doing what you need to do, as long as you have good intentions and not harm people. I believe when your mind is free, you can feel true happiness and unleash your true potential.

This track is special as I decided to do my best in following my instincts. My only constraints were that I can play it at my opening set at Atmos (https://atmosfest.com/) and has an Organic House vibe.

As Kora was the surprise guest at the Front Republic Festival, playing on the same stage as Davian and me, I wanted to show my appreciation for his talent by jamming to one of his masterpieces.

Started as a fan, now a friend, he definitely inspired me to develop my own sound with his unique style.

My 3 hrs recorded set with live guitar at Atmos Fest . Burning Sun (https://atmosfest.com/)

What an experience it was, from playing 3 tracks I produced, one of which was unreleased, to taking people on a diverse journey throughout the set.

My highlight was when Victor Rodrigez encouraged me to go on top of speakers to play the guitar, and with no hesitation I did it cause I was manifesting this moment (always grateful for him).

Now the fun part was when I had to transition from a psy-trance track :) loved the challenge and I even jammed with my guitar to the track before I started, and I have to admit, it was fun :)

The festival was on point, from people, music, location and just overall vibes.

My 1st remix and I could't be happier with it. 

When I 1st came across Playing God by Polyphia, it was just beautiful. I was amazed by Tim Henson's skills (lead guitarist). 

The way he navigates the guitar to create such unique and beautiful sounds is something I haven't witness since I discovered Steve Vai long time ago.

This is a tribute to their amazing talent and redefining the boundaries of guitar playing.

The message is about the positive impact of pushing your boundaries and getting out of your comfort zone.

1st set to be recorded in Dahab. Didn't expect to record in a hotel balcony but the vibe was really calling for it.

I always connected with this sound: organic, deep and emotional melodies. I will definitely produce a track with such sounds at one point as Jan Blomqvist is one of my top inspirations for this kind of sound.

Adam Husa recommended to start with the guitar and let the rest flow and this track was inspired by this method. I used various inspirations and started jamming until I liked a certain riff. From there the entire track was built. Love the outcome.

This is the closest I produced where I can see the fusion of rock influences and current electronic ones.

The riff is definitely inspired by those good old days.

I really like this one as it has as well some Muse (huge fan) arp influence and those harsh distortion sounds.

I like how this one turned out. Again with no reference track and not even a genre in mind, I just decided on a higher bpm (128) and the Am scale.

I started jamming with a clean sound rhythm, then the bassline, and everything else just flowed.

This started with a riff that was part of my guitar practice. I wanted to experiment with some blues vibes. So there is a few blues notes in there.

It's interesting that it took a more heavy deep vibe, and of course always groovy.

This track is another one where I find a lot of my rock influence was playing a part.

This one started with a guitar rhythm that was later removed and a bassline created with the keyboard instead of the guitar.

This might be the one I struggled the most to finish. I didn't take any guitar part of the original jam. I did add at the end one of the main melodies yet after all the other leads were added. I just reunited with my mini keyboard so a lot of the melodies were recorded midi.

I didn't give up on it and I finally reached a point where I do like it.

1st track with my own vocals thanks to my mentors Husa and Zeyada's push for me to explore this side, as well as they suggested to incorporate live guitar riffs throughout the track and not just at the dedicated solo part, which I really like.

I really enjoyed the challenge especially after my traumatic experience when I was really young as the lead singer and I bombed the vocals on stage lol (Still remember it as if it was yesterday)

Another track with vocals. It kinda went the same direction as the previous one, but I did add deeper PADs (Jan Blomqvist vibes) and changed a bit how I play the guitar solos. 

I definitely struggled a bit with the vocals as I wanted to go in a different direction, using more a deeper voice, kinda in between spoken words and singing. I finally reached a point where I like how it sounds :)

Finally another one out in the wild. This one was inspired by a little jam I had while waiting for my shrimp sandwich in Dahab. I was aiming to use the exact vocal line but eventually it took another direction but I kept the chord progression with a minor change.

This track was a real challenge as I experimented with Neural's Archetype: Tim Henson X guitar plugin. Vocals were tricky, some lines flowed naturally, but others took several takes to nail the desired tone and emotion.

It all started with a late-night jam session, where I connected with the guitar riff. From there, I layered everything around it, letting the vibe guide the process.

This message is about how good the feeling of escaping reality is until it consumed you. Then you heal and reconnect with yourself to be the one you are meant to be.

This one has lots of new factors:

The unexpected vocals by my boi Omar. Started as a hang out and I asked him to give singing a shot, and he impressed. Part of our convo is in the track as well 😁

Jammed with other guitar effects, which I was kinda doing at the start of my Jam sessions, then I stopped, not sure why, but now it’s back.

The sound took a different direction, not sure what inspired it, but the intention was there.

Last but not least, the flower themed shirt, never thought I would perform with one, but it’s my mom’s gift ❤️ and goes with the ⚫️ and ⚪️ branding, so voila.

The message is about how we sometimes we don’t say what needs to be said to someone we care about cause we’re scared to hurt them or scared to be judged.

With this track, I was aiming to make it more "dancy", so I started with a groovy sample bassline from splice as an inspiration, but then I replaced it with my own.

I try as much as I can not to use samples for the main melodic elements (bass, synth, etc..) just because I feel like by doing so, it will help me find my sound in the long term.

The message is about sometimes following your instincts will require you to take some risks, which kinda makes life interesting.

Our 1st of many collabs. With this one we totally went with the flow, no planning, and the outcome was a Jan Blomqvist inspired sound. It made sense as both of us dig his sound.

Growing up, I dreamed of shredding a guitar solo on stage like Slash in November Rain. Then I discovered electronic music and everything changed. The vast range of sounds and their ability to take us on a unique journey pulled me in. 

After DJin for a while, the urge to play the guitar came back stronger than ever, and that's when I decided to explore the fusion of my rock roots with electronic sounds.

Started as a hobby, I decided at 40 to embark on this journey where I can be myself and express my creative freedom.

A mindset shift needed to happen. A mindset free from fear.
