Byron Yeates has his fingerprints all over Berlin’s musical landscape. He’s the Irish wunderkind behind Radiant Love, an event series, label and collective with a loyal following that encourages free-thinking, self-expression and musical exploration in all its forms. He’s also resident at recently launched La Noche at OHM (Tresor’s ‘klein aber fein’ little brother) and community radio station Refuge Worldwide. The German capital’s oft-referenced hybrid of queer politics and music is the driving force here, and Yeates really puts his money where his mouth is. His marathon sets and bouncy, high-energy sounds run the gamut from trance to more beat-focused house and have landed him squarely behind the decks at covetable haunts like Panorama Bar, Fold London and Shelter Amsterdam. As a brief interlude from his growing number of bookings, Byron’s put together a sumptuous mix for Bassiani Podcast 164. This one’s sharp-witted and quick as a flash, rebellious breakbeats, carefree melodies and layered layered wizardry from the Radiant Records label-boss.

Berlin-based producer @moomin's third album 'Yesterday's Tomorrows' came out earlier this year via Wolf Music, and in something of a new direction, it found him incorporating his love for hip-hop, jungle, funk and breaks into his usual sample-led deep house sound.

We're very happy to welcome Moomin on board to our Ransom Note mix series, especially as this instalment finds him digging deep and exploring the hip-hop section of his record collection.

It was time for a new one! I listened to a lot of records I had never heard before for this, and also included some favorites of course. The format is similar to the first one, I like doing blocks of 2-3 songs from a particular album or group, and Bill Evans is always great to start with. The time period is roughly the same, late 50s through the 60s, though it ends with a bit more experimental works from Pharoah Sanders from the 70s. Although it's almost an hour longer, there is a bit less variety of artists because lot of the pieces are longer ones, all really great works in my opinion. Offering an intelligent and refined take on heavy, rave focused club music is St-Petersburg based  Maruwa. Her sound fuses all the genre defining bits of a wide palette,  weaving them together into a 'greatest hits' tapestry of electronica. Expect broken beats thumpy acid lines and delicate trance pads in this genre bending hour of a mix.  It's a similar intoxicating sound which she's made a name for herself on with stellar releases on stalwart labels SCDD and Lobster Theremin, so we expect nothing less.
