Calm Stiege makes his release debut with South-London label Dancing Family. The 2020 winner of the Point Blank and RA music scholarship brings his infectious production skills for his first EP ‘Dumb Dumb’. Over the past year the DJ and Producer has been making moves with his acclaimed edits that have taken Soundcloud by storm. His edit of Anz’s ‘Panrico’ has gained him widespread acclaim on the world wide web culminating over 13k streams on Soundcloud. 

On this 3 track project the South-East Londoner delivers 3 groovers perfect for the dancefloor. The long-standing AAJA Radio resident cherry picks elements from his go-to genres including UK Funky and Garage. ‘Exhaust’ starts things off with dark undertones and jumpy rhythms. With broken patterns and mysterious vocals this UK Funky inspired track is ideal for those head-down moments in the dance. Topping everything off is Calm Stiege’s signature Flute melody which you can find throughout his productions and edits. 

‘Dumb Dumb’ continues the project with a floating melody and hard hitting industrial-like House rhythms topped off by groovy percussions. This one is a must when wanting to get that dance floor nice and warm for all the heaters to come. To end things in a more light hearted manner is ‘Sweat Dreams’ a track filled with hope and sweet melancholy. With UK Funky percussion and an infectious Saxophone Matt A.K.A Calm Stiege shows off his ability to swerve through different moods and energies within his production. 

Whilst Calm Stiege has been making waves with his production and output (giving the people one Free Download a month) you can also catch the DJ playing the London circuit. Whether it be at Peckham sweatbox Four quarters or Corsica Studios you can also be sure to catch him on AAJA radio fortnightly showcasing some of his own work as well as his favourite tracks ranging from Garage to Grime to UK Funky. Dancing Family is pleased to welcome the multi-faceted selector and artist to the sibling run label.

One Eyed Jacks ceased activity in 2017 with a record by Photonz released under a different alias. It was the right time to let go: when the label started, in 2010, there were few electronic music labels in Portugal and a growing new wave of artists that needed to be documented and shown. Along the years, new labels - more capable ones - developed to cater to that need while projects like Rádio Quântica, co-founded by Photonz and Violet, seemed better instruments to carry on the vision of elevating and documenting a fledgling scene. But the itch for editorial expression was never gone and come 2023, One Eyed Jacks is back to life, animated by a renewed trust in the music and visions of how to apply its mysterious power to move, inspire and heal.

Lisbon-based Kara Konchar AKA Miguel Béco picks up on the original’s more emotive motifs and builds up a dense storm of heavy drums, unpredictable changes and texturally-rich variations on the melodies, bringing the drama levels way up.

Montreal's Parts Project brings the next release on Juncture Music with his Dreamerz EP. Leveraging the practical limitations of performing with a simple live hardware setup, he finds new ways of breathing energy and movement into the experience, while remaining connected with his audience. Exploring this challenge and finding new techniques has been the foundation of Parts Project, all of which can be heard on this EP.

These pieces are more melodic than his previous work. They were first constructed with melody and mood, with the rest built around that. They are reflective and nostalgic, tracing the isolated, urban experience, while maintaining an uncompromising energy throughout.

Platte International delivers a new four-track EP by Wareika’s Jakob Seidensticker & Melina this April, accompanied by a remix from Even Drones and entitled ‘Kein Ufo’.
Berlin’s Platte International imprint has firmly cemented itself as a staple of the underground electronic music scene over the past decade through releases from the likes of label co-founders Kareem and Peter Schumann,Franklin De Costa’s DCNT guise, Rydim, Smallville’s Christopher Rau and many more. 
Here, the label welcomes Jakob Seidensticker, a member of the Perlon trio Wareika, alongside Melina. The pair have previously released on the much-loved Frankfurt, Germany based label Housewax and here their collaborative story continues.

‘Kein Ufo’ leads the way and sees Jakob and Melina offer up crisp shuffled percussion, swirling subs, trippedout resonant synth swells and choppy bass tones to create a dynamic and hypnotic nine-minute groove.
‘Matcha’ follows next and dives deeper via winding ethereal synth textures, bright stab sequences and a raw,dusty drum groove.
Opening the flip side, Berlin duo Even Drones rework ‘Kein Ufo’ with their ‘Third Encounter Remix’, offering up their signature experimental style and twisting the original into a broken beat workout with murky bass and twisted fragments of the original throughout. ‘La Boom’ then rounds out the release through an amalgamation of organic drums, a bumpy bass line and jazzy keys.

This was a solid like no other, a chemical with properties so powerful it might ignite and power the very core of the earth itself. Deep beneath us all it was there, under the very ground on which we walked day by day, a forgotten compound which facilitated the very existence of us all.

The planet continued to spin, a small bulb in an otherwise chaotic and expansive universe. What else was out there was not known but the rock upon which we stand was as solid and as good a guess as any as to the chemical energy which made us all.

Deep cobalt, it kept us all afloat.

Kyle Hall remains one of the most innovative producers in the Dance and Electronic music circuit – pushing the sensibilities and limitations of House and Techno through experimental use of dusty sounds and grooves. The Detroit artist moves firmly forward with a faster paced EP built for the faster dancefloors.
