As each year passes, it has become clearer that Israeli statehood includes permanent control of the West Bank and the continued seizure of Gaza. For decades Israeli politicians have posed the question 'one state or two states?' whilst forcibly annexing more territory each passing year and simultaneously placing Israeli citizens into illegal settlements within private Palestinian territories in violation of international law. This demonstrates the impossibility the Israeli government poses against the existence of a viable Palestinian state.

Israel has redefined Palestinian statehood to include ever less territory and ever less sovereignty. Each year as the Palestinian population increases, Palestinian land size decreases. It is now estimated that 40% of Israeli settlements are built on Private Palestinian land. The age old 'two-state' solution no longer offers a legitimate alternative to Israels current path.

In May last year, the Israeli government announced it's plans to annex 280km squared of private Palestinian land in the West Bank and Jordan Valley. That is a total land size greater than Paris, Athens, Copenhagen and Porto together. As a result of the illegal and sustained annexation of Palestinians land, Al Gharib is eager to announce it's second release 'Palestine', a 35 track compilation seeking to raise awareness towards Israel's illegal annexation of private Palestinian land.

ALL the funds generated from the 'Palestine' CD & Bandcamp sales will be distributed to our friends at Olive Kids who are an Australian registered volunteer only organisation dedicated to improving the lives of Palestinian children in Palestine and in refugee camps within neighbouring countries through financial support, education and medical assistance.

Olive Kids are partnered with Al-Amal Institute for Hope, an orphanage based in Gaza advancing lifesaving support to Palestinian orphans. A large portion of the funds will be distributed by Olive Kids to Al-Amal Institute to sponsor orphans at their orphanage. These funds will be used to cover a bed for residence at the orphanage, food and water for the child, educational classes for the year, medicine and psychiatric support, clothing, stationary and transport to the orphanage. The remaining funds will be directed towards Olive Kids' 'Gaza Emergency Appeal', a project seeking to purchase 6000 hygiene packages, 600 food packages, 2,000 COVID-19 tests and fuel for hospital generators.

DJ TOOL - Sinkhole

Our first premiere of the week is a match made in heaven as Serbian techno connoisseur Lag teams up with Jerome Hill’s imprint, Don’t for a powerful 4 track EP. We premiere the track ‘Frka Frka’ a sub trembling club tool, this one is absolutely off the charts.

Serbian techno master Lag has been a favourite of mine for a very long time and his music has been a staple in my DJ sets for quite some time. The esteemed techno producer and DJ boasts a distinct sound that is characterised to be rhythmic, bassy, playful and groovy.

The broken techno boss has featured on acclaimed labels such as Mord, Elements, Upperberry, THEM & more. Lag’s distinctive sound has made him a favourite for DJ’s over the years.

The Serbian native also boasts a very reputable DJ career with podcasts on Hate, Slam Radio, DJ Mag and more. The skilled DJ can easily rock 4 decks with no compromise and all the thrills.

‘Frka Frka’ is a beautiful merger between forward thinking techno and old school nuances. Lag blends classic stab sounds with rolling bass lines, rhythmic drum patterns and classic lag vocal hits. Towering synth lines fly through the mix in the later part of the track, followed by menacing white. The whole track screams extravagant, it’s big and bold while remaining chic and dynamic.

I tested this out in Index last weekend and it tore the place the apart. This track is made for the club and it’s a monster on a system.

Premiere CF: Ben Ritz — Easily Disturbed [Fixed Rhythms]

Our first premiere of the week comes from Ctrls on DJ Stingray’s imprint, Micron Audio. Ctrls experiments electro and bass heavy tracks on this release to great effect. The Danish producer unpicks the deepening complexity brought on by our pervasive digital lives.

The Ctrls project came to life in 2012 and the Danish artist immediately made his mark on the techno scene. His fast paced and futuristic techno based sound has now been well established with a stream of respected music on labels such as Token Records, Earwiggle, and Key Vinyl.

The Danish artist has held it down at a number of high-profile venues throughout the world, including Tresor, Fold, Berghain, Khidi, Fabric, Kit Kat, Fold, and Club Drugstore, as well as a residency at Ved Siden Af, Copenhagen’s purest electronic dance music club.

For his next release the formidable techno artist releases on DJ Stingray’s imprint Micron Audio as it opens its doors to an external artist for the first time. Across four tracks, the Danish producer unravels a dark and funky electro core, taking inspiration from the rapidly intertwining codependence between technology and society. As digital twins, metaverses or humanoid robots lodge themselves deeper into our surroundings, Ctrls unpicks the deepening complexity brought on by our pervasive digital lives.

Encouraged by Micron Audio boss Stingray to delve into the darker productions as a means of exploring a contemporary electro sound, Ctrls fixes a hypnotic heft with fresh industrial sound.

‘Subroutines’ is a dark and heavy bass exploration, as Ctrls experiments with sub heavy drums and glitchy synths. Alarming drones play off inky reverb swells. Ctrls captures a cataclysmic atmosphere with profound groove.

Yazzus follows up her appearance on the Tresor 30 compilation with a new EP named BLACK METROPOLIS. Within its, at times, rough-hewn textures lies a core that explores joy and energy within the roots of black techno. In her words: "I want this release to be black and beautiful, to be queer, and playful, a nostalgic nod to the 90s but also reimagining it in the current times."

The Ghana-born, London-bred, now Berlin-based producer's research into afro-futurism, envisaging a path forward for science, technology and culture through the black experience, has impressed a deep vision on this EP. Yazzus sets like a cartographer, using her tracks to explore a technologically advanced world, each representing different regions and environments.

Human Error Processor introduces an ear-worming percussion pattern nearly swamped by distorted bass drums and a vocal sample screwed just beyond recognition. Perforated leads with a 150bpm four to the floor stomp, infectious and supercharged. Gluey synth motions soak in an otherworldliness, where industrious, mechanical rhythms map out futurist structures in all directions.

Metro City Bay Area exhibits a ghettotech soul, lean and bouncy - this part of the galaxy is an infinite source of fun, with the heart of groove at its core. Three Deities brings adventurers of its region towards higher powers, its ravey synths and an engulfing bass provoke a complete NRG release, ascending into a spiritual trance where dense melodies bubble and fizz. Digital-only track United By Fate meddles busy vocal samples with searching melodies, a fitting end to the kaleidoscopic that is BLACK METROPOLIS.

The EP captures a wide range of sonic ground with an innovative and futuristic edge, like our trembling and thrilling premiere pick: ‘Vone’.

After head-turning releases on Transatlantic and Monnom Black, the mysterious LDS now drops a versatile record full of playful loops, experimental beats and virtuoso melody lines. Being “currently or forever on research”, as the artist puts it, LDS is able to arouse his listeners while making them search for visionary perspectives and new meanings of music at the very same time.

‘Vone’ is the second track of the bursting B-side that propels some dynamic and cracking rhythms through the ether.
