For their penultimate release of the year Toolroom welcome yet another label debutant, this time in the form of Italian tech maestro, Uto Karem. What Uto has created here truly is something special. The result of re-creating those lead synth elements from the classic Octave One ‘Blackwater’ track and layering them over the top of a low-slung and dirty tech house groove is just incredible. With the insatiable BPM Festival in Mexico just around the corner, this certainly looks set to become an underground anthem and provide the sound-track to those sun drenched pool parties.

As if the original wasn’t exciting enough, Ninetoes is drafted in on remix duties, also debuting on the label, and he manages to take the track to a whole new level by using tougher drums and a hypnotic, techno driven bass line. This version definitely lends itself more to the club dance floors making this the perfect package and another aspirational string to Toolroom’s musical bow of 2015.

Hamburg based producer Hatzler’s EP is crafted to keep the dancefloor moving, with two original tracks and two remixes. ‘SkyT’ unfolds with a rolling groove that ascends abruptly into a throbbing, trance-inducing piece peppered with cavernous synth pads. ‘KreaT’ lays down hard hitting thumps from the get-go, doling out an undulating synth with whirring atmospherics. It’s these whirs that end up combining harmoniously with the swirling synth hook, leading to a highly anticipated peak time release. For his ‘SkyT’ remix, Sian amps up the theatrics, giving the track a dramatic dimension by infusing it with spacious reverb. Where Sian went down a more theatrical avenue, Ruiz plays down the emotion.  Victor Ruiz’ take on ‘SkyT’ is a more stripped down approach, minimizing the elements and keeping the focus on the rolling bassline.

Delusion is a fresh-out-of-the-studio deep hypnotic techno track by Melbourne based Daniel Verhagen. It's the first track from his forthcoming EP to be released on Australian underground house/techno superlabel Upon Access run by Made in Paris.

A hypnotic atmosphere, timeless piano keys and dreamy vocal all create a perfect soundscape on this (d)illusional track.  Delusion was inspired by the delusive lure of perfectionism whilst on the pursuit of mastery. Sonically, it features a contrasting balance of classical and contemporary instruments used to create a film music inspired melancholic soundscape.

Out on Upon Access January 27th.

HMWL Premiere: Daniel Verhagen - Delusion

Peckham duo FYI Chris return to Rhythm Section INTL for the second time with their ‘Snafubar’ EP, including the raw and dusty house track ‘Lonestar’.

Although the track can be said to possess a house structure, it’s clearly not easy to categorize, as the producers use an unconventional approach to delivering dancefloor focused material. With an overall gritty motif, FYI Chris present a stripped back cut highlighted by rough, warm and organic textures.

On the inspiration behind ‘Lonestar’, FYI Chris give a nod to a legendary hip-hop duo: "We’re big fans of a certain duo from DITC and this track is a little shout out to those guys".

Perhaps Rodney and Andre would be down to lay a verse on this one, but that’s a different story.
