Abakus is the artist project of music producer Russ Davies, who also releases nudisco-electro under the Cinnamon Chasers alias, and progressive rock/ambient with his father Dave Davies (founder of 60s cult act The Kinks) as The Aschere Project. 

This release is the first in a series of exclusive new reworked versions of classic Abakus tracks which he has been spinning at live sets around the world this year.

Mellow funk is the engine; a velvety intro bass sets the pulse before dueling pianos trade phrases one cool and glassy, the other smoky and soulful. Electric guitar whispers in counter-melody while horns lift the skyline with slow-bloom harmonies. The groove stretches into a mellow extended play, easing you from head-nod to headspace. Midway, a liquid drum & bass undercurrent sneaks in halftime feel flipping to full glide adding momentum without breaking the calm. It’s emotional and trance-tinged: a piece that exhales, expands, then lands back on velvet.

Headphones recommended. Sub-bass friendly. Perfect for night drives, deep work, and the moment right after takeoff when everything goes quiet and your heartbeat finds the beat.

Receptor takes his final bow after 15 years of innovation in Drum & Bass, and Evolution Chamber is marking the moment with 'Receptoration',  a remix project celebrating his legacy.

The first release drops two heavyweights straight out the gate. Gydra fires off a ferocious take on 'Punks', merging neuro precision with jump-up energy. Then Neonlight step in to rework 'Parkour' with soaring melody, slick groove, and that unmistakable German flair.

A powerful start to a project that honours one of Drum & Bass’s most fearless producers. Receptor might be stepping away, but his sound will echo for years to come.
