The girl next door who never really left.

Third grade, late 70s.
One crush in a lei at the class luau, then she walked in — dirty-blonde hair, sparkling eyes, pure sunshine. We teased her “Appletree” to hide the butterflies.

Fourth grade Christmas show: me in my first leisure suit, her in a little black dress + fur stole, co-hosting like mini grown-ups.

Summer ’78 — daydreaming in the driveway… look up and she’s literally moving in next door. Magic.
Heartbreak when the family split and she vanished.

Fast-forward 30+ years. One relentless groove wouldn’t quit, but I needed lyrics. Fell asleep determined to have them in the morning.

Woke up from a dream reunion in a green studio, her mom dancing in white, saying “it’s time to reunite you two tonight.” Wrote the lyrics at 4 AM. Tears included.

The late Wah Wah Watson heard the instrumental, flipped, laid guitars over a short edit and spun “UH by UH” at Brian McKnight’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony.

Re-released as the Leap Year Edit on GL3N’s second album — born February 29, 2020, during the Great Release Project.

This is the original — raw, real, and still looking for that girl next door.
