Music for Danse Etoile Ballet (www.danseetoile.org) who will be performing Frida's Wings, a ballet based on the life and works of Frida Kahlo, June 2024 in Colorado.
Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter known for her many portraits, self portraits and works inspired by the nature and artifacts of Mexico.  Her paintings often had strong autobiographical elements and mixed realism with fantasy. She is also known for painting about her experience of chronic pain. In most of her self-portraits, she depicts her face as mask-like, but surrounded by visual cues which allow the viewer to decipher deeper meanings. Aztec mythology features heavily in Kahlo's paintings in symbols including skeletons and skulls.  In the painting, Dream of The Bed, painted in the year of 1940, Frida expressed her feeling and interception of death, which depicts a skeleton on the canopy of her bed (as she had in her real life). Her husband, Diego Rivera called the Juda, Frida's lover, but Frida said it's just an amusing reminder of people's mortality. Frida Kahlo spent much of her life in pain.  As As a teenager she suffered a horrific bus accident which left her unable to have children and meant she needed more than 30 operations on her spine. Eventually her withered leg had to be amputated and she died at 47. She said in her diary: “Feet, why do I need you, if I have wings to fly”

So... this is my first attempt at A.I. generated music. I tried this on www.udio.com. However, it is not completely created by me from scratch, but for this first time I've used it, I took a fragment of someone else's song, which stuck in my heart with its mood (I am an incurable romantic). I really regretted that it didn't have a beginning and an end, so... I generated my own. The track came out really awesome, so I've decided to share it with You. It really resonate with me... And now someone say that this A.I. generated music does not evoke emotions...

However, I still don't know what to do with this technology. There is no return to the state before it appeared, so we will have to live with it. But will I use it... I don't think so, at least not yet. For now I can't say its human influenced creation. Until they turn it into something like Crea or Leonardo, where a human influences every aspect of the work being created, or even gives A.I. directives on what it should look like, feeding it with your ideas, this is not the technology for me... Or maybe I don't know how to use it...

But time passes and sooner or later such technology will appear. Then we will be able to put aside our plugins and DAWs and create/generate whatever we dream of at the speed of thought  :)

I finally decided to publish it, after almost two years, although I composed it for a guitarist who did not finally accept the collaboration.

I simulated a guitar with the options that my programs and my iPad give me and I thought I could offer something motivating.... but I couldn't.

Even so, I am not dissatisfied with the result and that is why I share it.

This track is a little nuts.....

If you've ever battled a raccoon, this is the song for you, sung from the perspective of the perpetrator. Raccoons are wily little buggers and more than a little guile is needed to control the movements of an animal that has been trapped in a cage before.

Debated with myself a bit on adding more instruments and sounds but in the end decided that less was more. The "rhythm guitar" is a distorted saturated synth and the "lead" is a Logic Pro Heavy Metal guitar manipulated with the pitch stick on my synth. The difficult part was getting the swing on the drums right and the ADSR right on the main synth, modulation and LFO. Also played a bit with the compression to get a breathing sound.

About the raccoon - that battle is ongoing - physical deterrence is now in place.

The raccoon, also spelled racoon and sometimes called the common raccoon or northern raccoon to distinguish it from the other species, is a mammal native to North America. It is the largest of the procyonid family, having a body length of 40 to 70 cm (16 to 28 in), and a body weight of 5 to 26 kg (11 to 57 lb). Its grayish coat mostly consists of dense underfur, which insulates it against cold weather. The animal's most distinctive features include its extremely dexterous front paws, its facial mask, and its ringed tail, which are common themes in the mythologies of the Indigenous peoples of the Americas surrounding the species. Pulled from the vault, Julie and I weren't sure what to name this little romp after it was conceived in a jam session some 30 years ago.  Dave Brubeck's classic Take 5 came to mind, but being in 4/4 time we settled on Take 4.  Her playing is full-on Stefane Grappelli as I beat time with the chord changes and bass line.
