When Ren and I decided to create another song, we initially thought about creating something soft and ethereal.  Then I had an idea, to create something more upbeat…and to Ren’s credit, she went with it.  Before long, we had created ‘Northern Lights’, a track that is anything but soft or slow. Trying to capture the sonic attitude of Chuck Mangione - part of the instrumental Jazz Fusion (Cinematic Jazz) album featuring compositions by Gregor Theelen - newly arranged with added instrumentation by Peter Heckmann. 

The album mix is intentionally crafted with a distinct "live recording" vibe and not overly polished -  a sonic homage to the contemporary Jazz Fusion style of the late 1970's & 1980's (Weather Report, Stanley Clarke, Pat Metheny, Branford Marsalis etc.)
