Pécs, an enchanting city of approx. 180.000 inhabitants in southern Hungary had it’s first taste of underground dance music in the mid-nineties – which we can regard as a pretty decent accomplishement in light of the general state of affairs in the area. The traditionally responsive athmosphere of our home town and the open minded mentality of the up-for-it local crowd prooved to be excellent breading ground for the fresh sounds filtering into the region. Early day pioneers could feed their ever-growing hunger for this newly found phenomenon with the help of the local leftfield radio station, Publikum (now known as G-FM), as well as western stations streanming through cabel TV and the net. The clued up started out on their first excursions to the mythical early ’Tilos’ parties in Budapest, organised by cult station ’Radio Tilos’ – the name meaning ’forbidden’, suggesting the pirate nature in which this initiative spent it’s toddler years. Back to Pécs: as the underground scene gained momentum throughout Hungary, the first local sound systems started popping up – groups of enthusiastic youths started doing their own club nights, eager to spread the vibe of the particular sub-genres they had fallen in love with. The parties, primarily exlusive only to people ’in the know’, were intended to spread the new musical aesthetics to the masses and so broadend their fan base with every step. Similar reasons led to the formation of The Federation of young Porn Talents – or ’FPT’ as it’s better known – in autumn 2001. FPT is not exactly what the name would suggest at first glance. It’s not a casting agency for the underground sex-industry, nor is it some pervy gentlemen-only XXX event. FPT is a club night funded on the basic premise that we do not wish to confide our versatile musical tastes and want to avoid being regarded as champions of just one sound. Our commitment to take a different approach gets obvious if you look through the record bags of the 3 founding members – András Szirmai (Sirmo), Márton Bodó (bodoo aka bobek) and Peter Soltész (P-Funk) and the new boy Dávid Felcser (péló): you will find a wide spectrum of different styles from latin folk to organic house, from raw hip-hop to funk-filled breaks, from rare soul chillers to boogie down killers,even techno with with that funkyass bassline. The genre-mashing antics of the deckwreckers are often backed up by live instruments (guitar, percusion, diggaridue...) and MCs adding an extra layer to the groove with their flow and toasting. A long list of Hungarian musical talent that has vibed us throughout our adventourous trip so far. Unsurprisingly one of our prime inspirations has been the colletive of DJs and sound systems connected to Radio Tilos. Having said that, we are allways ready to take on anybody with a fresh and original approach, local or international, at home or abroad.
