Never have I been more calm
than those days in Kansas
late October
when the air was comfortable
while water fell
at 45 degrees
made second skin
and absorbed
as if it was never there
finding shade
under red leaves
and yellow
and falling into piles
-sustained you glimmer
slight right smiled
as we would talk
the rain away.

Those are whisper of time
I can only requite in my dreams
and brighten my afternoon
over steeped holly
as my new southern roots
out my window see's
sand palms and an ocean green

I close eyes sometimes
and you are there
we are in that place
and those long conversations
aren't memories
but now
and I in those moments
become fulfilled.

When I was 24
out of no where
my world became pain
no doctor could find reason
or explain but none the less
it was there
capped below the knee
could hardly stand
and one day
out of the blue
a person I never met
that never knew me before that
offered help as they knew what it was
and if marble could weap
I would
but I became a statue in time

I found Treatment
and
They say that dreams
are only that
and once we wake
they are lost 
but with you
I can't tell if I'm awake
as all the hardships I've endured
are gone

The Vicenza Train Crew

Each morning 
I would wake before the hens 
break open the shutters 
of my floor to ceiling windows 
and be bathed in the blood orange 
rays of a newly waking sun 

I would stare out 
among the fields 
of purple red vines 
lining the hill side 
almost reaching to the sky 
where snow was already accumulating 

back then the floor wasn't heated 
so the souls of my feet 
would stick on every step 
as I readied the morning bath 

By five - time had arrived 
for me to race down the stairs 
to the soon approaching bus 
leading to a train 
I wouldn't board until an hour later 

A group of us would meet
in a certain car 
some had already been riding 
for 30 minutes -
we caught up on school work 
played cards 
some of us slept 
as waking so early 
for a high schooler 
was not the norm 

Our conversations would carry over 
from the rails 
to another bus 
this time an old military one 
that would take us on base 
where school was 

The day would play out 
school being school 
but when the final bell rang 
the Vicenza train crew 
got their own bus 
and returned back to the station 

On Fridays 
we wouldn't go home
we would finish the line 
from Vicenza to Venice 
shuffle around the back streets 
talk about life 
plan of the weekend 
and most times 
I would sit on this arch 
while the others roamed off 
and I'd write 

I would write about love 
as one does in Italy 
about the stillness 
as rarely anyone roamed where I was 
and just look out at the water 
until my alarm went off 
I joined the rest 
and we would make our way home.
