Just went through another battle of Cellulitis this last week and thought I would write on it.

Cellulitis

O fluid that flows between the rocks and crevices of this place
you call earth
you make the rivers and streams between the streaks and screams
my skin must plead to each day
As you are the great unrelenting tide that has devoured half of me
and then, you rest under stress
find the ocean as my body is bound
in fine tight cotton blended straps,
foam padding,
and sometimes a little soft cotton sheet in-between
to protect the more vulnerable parts.

We mortal few
who stew with this reality find bliss
in the good days
as while they are more than few
it is the bleak
we return to most
in our mind
as we know it is the curse we were dealt

Thursday past all was well,
a cool sixty degree's in north florida
nothing the bother at the time it would seem until
I for the first time understood what was causing
this plague that finds me in moments throughout the years
shaking in my bed
under covers two
for three hours I was there
until finally it relented

and phase 2 began
This is where you have lost the battle
fever sets in
your compass is lost in a fog
and all control of your body and immune system
is plated so nicely in gold
as cellulitis crawls through the rivers of your body

Now this was not the first time we have dueled
they and I
but for the first time I knew that this creature
that nestles in dark corners and waists
for weakness
was exactly that which sent me to this place I was
last week.

I always believed it was something else
something I have had my whole life
and I treat each day
﻿that failed me
and so I called it "Thyroid Attack"
Leading to this beast that cuts and claws
into my skin
but no...
sly devil all this time it was You
the symptoms so plain on the page
this is you!

So here I am another round of cellulitis in my body
antibiotics fighting it back while I lay in this bed
so nicely tended by the hospital I write from.

nine and zero you have won
but now I know how you begin
I know what must be done
to set that zero to one.

As I rust

Before you I was spry
Enjoyed the monotony
Of my day

With toast and jam
But now i’m crystal
A statue for all to see
And cracking
Wanting to break, but
The entropy is deep

Finally to lack words
You approach
Touch my shoulder
I’m free
Turn to see
The world through your
Baby blue eyes

Releases my lips

And somehow

And scones.

Unusual Seasons

I don't know what to breath
when I think about 
the way season
have changed over the years
to where I live

Naturally the sun devours us
all year round and i mask my eyes
so that I can drown out
It's harsh rays

This year
particularly this year
things are changed
winter winds
normally sway
at 80 degree
all year
but 
From August
to now that is not the case
as I cover myself at night
two blankets deep
wear long sleeves
and only when I crest the door
and see the sun still there
do I feel
calm
restored
and ready for the new day
as I roll up my sleeves
feel the warmth
and sip my coffee
whilst reading the comic section
of the paper.

When I was 24
out of no where
my world became pain
no doctor could find reason
or explain but none the less
it was there
capped below the knee
could hardly stand
and one day
out of the blue
a person I never met
that never knew me before that
offered help as they knew what it was
and if marble could weap
I would
but I became a statue in time

I found Treatment
and
They say that dreams
are only that
and once we wake
they are lost 
but with you
I can't tell if I'm awake
as all the hardships I've endured
are gone
and I melt in your hands
and my legs nummed over the years
feel again

I want to apologize for who I am
I find freedom in poetry
Letting me tell stories

And people coddle me

being strong
When all I did 
was be creative

I’m sorry if I was 
off putting in  your praise
I just honestly don’t know how to take it
I write the way I do

it comes easy to me
To write so real that it comes across
As its true to life for me

I’m hurting anyone

my body broken
soaking in the 
water flowing
from my eyes
to my legs
no words can be
spoke to devise 
or temper
the delusions
of nevermore
hard baked in my brain
this pain
is sustained caustically
constantly but dulled
in compressed garments

yelling on the inside

I live in a body
that fights me each day
if not my legs then
other systems in my brain
and I love to see the sun
but I love to close my eyes

Dreaming of the Ole Wabash

I wish the River
Would flow the way
as when I was child
fishing in may
we would go
up
and down
the  waters
of the old Wabash
laying traps
to check
the next morning

and at last
We got Sturgeon
Catfish 
and of the greatest of things
But non more greater
than that
of the ole high fin

I walked walked along
those muddy paths 
between one palace to another
and all I think about
is the time
I would slush around in the water

I wish those days back
So I could be a child again
but since I can't
I'll keep those in my memories 
and see them in my dreams.

Dreaming Of The Ole Wabash

Dimmed

My body wracked
sweat makes my pillow
a pool
and my heart
hand held
at light speed

these grey broken pupils
push through the shades
and I wondering where I am
look around
calm a little
cry a little
weep a little

I can't forget the day
the sky was sapphires
set in a diamond band
glistening the water tips
and you were so happy
ready for the beach
and the movie later that night
You were excited to see Home Alone

I surprised you with waffles cut into hearts
your favorite
layered with whip crème and chocolate chips
our secret
your  mother would kill me
oh and you have your mothers face
her will
her strength
and I love you for it
better you be her
than me

We walked to the beach out the back door
spring was upon us
so we had to mingle among 
the college kids to find a spot

Layed out our blankets
and ran to the water
waddling as ducks do
following their mother
and splash the cool sea
surrounded us

we played for a while sat back down for a drink
renewed our lotion
you wanted to jump in the shallow
so I let you but kept an eye on you
the whole time

They say that the sun
blackens in the stress
and one moment you were there
wave crossed higher than your neck
and pulled you back
I jumped
ran as fast as I could
 yelling
SAVE HER!!!!!

It must have fallen on def ears
as no one heard me
or helped
5 minutes 21 seconds
That is how long it took
for her to be found 
a few yards down the beach

I run to the screams
as a man pulls her to a blanket 
on the beach
I start CPR
the life guard in slow motion
flecks my periphery
and a young woman runs
to call 911

I... was lost
and she was my guiding light
dimmed to undertow
and me not being next to her
holding her hand 
as she sloshed around

Now everyday since that
I lost everything
My wife
my job
the ability to be
anything other
than haunted by these dreams
that I see with my eyes open
or closed.

Lost in the corner

Every morning 
I sit in the corner
of the Café
on Center and Lavender
leaning over my notebook
scribbling  my scribes

The bell ring
as the door opens
and there you are
an immaculate being
Smiling everyday
Talks to everyone
Even me

I am destroyed
In her eyes
As though she sees 
me
The real me
So I answer her questions
And shy back

Three days from that have passed
Three days of silence
I”m lost
Where is my chatter bee
Who I shy from
But welcome each day

I woke this morning
Wondering should I even go
Should I even write
Should I wake up at all

I drag myself from bed
Not to break the cycle
Not to stop the fingers 
Writing the meanderings
Of this shy individual

I walk in, and there you are
With him
I no not him
Until our introduction
I fake a smile
Not shy this day
Why should I be shy
When she is already taken

She looks at me and says
Good bye!
I wave awkwardly
Saying under my breath
Are you truly happy
And I hope the answer
While devastating is yes.

Lost In The Corner

I've always whispered...
in quiet rooms,

fell back consumed,
Spoke words of hardships...
and fragility,
of love...
and stability,
Talk at events about humanity,
its highs and lows,
its wonderment,
and then gone
in the end.

Undeservedly,
at least I feel,

grey matter

before
the layer man

estimated end

sly insect princess

The Bella Donna

The Vicenza Train Crew

Each morning 
I would wake before the hens 
break open the shutters 
of my floor to ceiling windows 
and be bathed in the blood orange 
rays of a newly waking sun 

I would stare out 
among the fields 
of purple red vines 
lining the hill side 
almost reaching to the sky 
where snow was already accumulating 

back then the floor wasn't heated 
so the souls of my feet 
would stick on every step 
as I readied the morning bath 

By five - time had arrived 
for me to race down the stairs 
to the soon approaching bus 
leading to a train 
I wouldn't board until an hour later 

A group of us would meet
in a certain car 
some had already been riding 
for 30 minutes -
we caught up on school work 
played cards 
some of us slept 
as waking so early 
for a high schooler 
was not the norm 

Our conversations would carry over 
from the rails 
to another bus 
this time an old military one 
that would take us on base 
where school was 

The day would play out 
school being school 
but when the final bell rang 
the Vicenza train crew 
got their own bus 
and returned back to the station 

On Fridays 
we wouldn't go home
we would finish the line 
from Vicenza to Venice 
shuffle around the back streets 
talk about life 
plan of the weekend 
and most times 
I would sit on this arch 
while the others roamed off 
and I'd write 

I would write about love 
as one does in Italy 
about the stillness 
as rarely anyone roamed where I was 
and just look out at the water 
until my alarm went off 
I joined the rest 
and we would make our way home.

my words dissipate
in your sour smile

and I fear
that this tidal wave

The absolute terror I had

the next thing I know
food has been ordered

I look at you glazed over
this is a dream
maybe a nightmare

and I Hades
the food on our plate the pomegranate
if you take a bite
we are together forever
until...
I jest
and without hesitation
she bites from the fruit
and the rest
pure bliss

Time as told by those
smarter than I
does not stop for anyone
change
regails the heart for what it wants
and as hard as I fought
Demeter's grace found roots
and took you away from me
from this low cost living
never made anything of my self
life I provided
and I get it

destroyed by sadness
I relent
apologize for being sub par
but as your body turns
to leave
I hold out my hand
a gift
crimson fruit
with a bow on top
the real thing
and whisper
as I can hardly pull myself to speak
"before you leave
this is for you"
you turn back
and as Trevi's fountain
you eyes make waterfalls weep
starting to fall to your knee's
I catch you

and thank you
for all the time we had together
expecting that you still would leave
but you stay.

Devoured in a torrent of asperations
I hardly stand anymore
I'm crushed
lost in a world
that beholdens me to an idea
and feeling worse for wanting more

Such a small word-
making hearts burst
and my thoughts rush-
knowing that something is wrong--
and I can feel it close
every step taken 
it gets further
further away
as my eyes are closed
to what is right in front of me

Thats how I feel 
everytime you are near

Repeating in my mind
I know you are real
but the cause of so much turmoil inside-
not because of you
because myself
knowing that the thoughts I have for you
will never be spoken a-loud

I remember it being Monday
sitting at the table I normaly sit at
listening to some music
and writing

I didn't see you walk in
if I did
I would have probably hid myself
but you know who I am
you know where I sit
and you know what I like

My glass was empty
and you filled it
sat down and started talking
I heard something in your voice
it was different

I look up slowly
as soon as you see my eyes
you smile
I grin
as never to show more
than the broken person
I see in the mirror

You asked me
"Want to come over"
I look up again
"over?"
you smile
"watch a movie or smomething"
my eyes wider now
"I mean... really?"
you laugh
i shy back
she lifts my chin
and smiles again
picks up my hand
writes a phone number
and address in marker

as you stand,
"I'll see you tonight, don't be late"
I smile,
"I'll be there"

I look back at my hand
you touched my hand
you touched my face
and I don't know what to do
with this smile
its not going away
and i'm 
I'm smitten

And as all turtles do
I fall back into myself
and begin to write
all the things
I wanted to tell you.

Y: The Last Man

The day was like any other
sun out
sky blue
until the screaming began
blood creeping from their eyes
and mouth
not just the men
but the boys as well

I cannot explain the horror it is
to see ones child sprawled on the ground
dead from...
what ever this demon is
that's killing them

I look away from whats
unfolding before me to see
my next door neighbors cat
fall over from the same sickness

The news says that all across the world
this is happening to the males
humans and mamals alike
but Y

Y just the men
Y the young boys
and why not me
that wouldn't be answered
for a few weeks

It will come out later that
anyone with the Y chromosome
was affected
everyone but myself
and my pet monkey Ampersand

It took time
but was finally able to reach DC
where my mother lived
A Senator staying at the white house
I tell her my plan to find my Girlfriend
but she has other idea's

Test to see why I lived
maybe a chance at a future
but there are new groups and gangs
that would like me
not to be alive.
