Sausha - REDUX OF DESPAIR

The final katharsis release of 2024 is the 26-track compilation “Physical Force” featuring a wide range of affiliated artists from both the international and local Copenhagen electronic music scene. As the title hints, Physical Force delves into the visceral, bodily aspects of music, inviting its contributors to explore the theme of movement as a central element in their compositions. Each artist was encouraged to focus on rhythm, groove, energy, and the physicality of sound, which resulted in drum-heavy release from start to finish. While there is a consistent emphasis on rhythm and a bodily connection to the music, the tracks vary widely in style and sonic texture, ranging from big melodic anthems, gritty experimental techno, heavy jungle bangers, and beyond.

Hiding in relative obscurity, Music For Your Plants – the sonic environment tended by Tallinn's Norman Orro – originated in late 2000s as a library-music-obsessed prog-rock collective in the dusty attics of the Estonian Academy of Arts. The project has since shed its initial kraut-informed sprawl, evolving through junglist, breakbeat hyperstitions toward a sort of post-anthropocene chamber music: densely layered, rhythmically unstable, and emotionally euphoric.

MFYP maintains a fascination with nonhuman perspectives and systems,
expressing this through forgotten esoteric plugins or operating 90’s hardware with the casual precision of someone peeling particularly stubborn fruit. Despite surface affinities with ambient or post-club sonics, Orro’s output eschews the genre’s more pristine tendencies. MFYP’s productions are texturally grainy, often abrasive in detail – the residue, perhaps, of early-digital workflows and a background in tape-saturated, longform rock improvisation.

Where Hassell sought hybrid utopias, MFYP’s trajectory leads deeper into what Orro has referred to as “Fifth World sonics,” creating a deliberate babel of "world musics" – sometimes deploying reflective detachment, elsewhere earnestly attempting to reconfigure music for an age where the concept of "world" is in crisis. This approach, crystallised on the 2013 Humanity EP, helped cohere the “eco grime” microgenre through holographic, deconstructed folktronics and mutations of UK bass DNA.

On Aeolian Software, we find bit-crushed fretwork and pop-leaning structures, if only briefly gasping for air. MFYP’s current phase appears concerned with breath and density, melodic cells surfacing through mist before dissolving again – as if uncertain whether to take root or vanish.
New Age textures creep in sideways, only to be clipped by loose 2-step scaffolding, while vocal trance fragments pockmark the air like overheard dreams. Somewhere between the PS2 boot sequence and a pan-global spiritual, it's panglossia for the post-everything listener.

Music for your Plants — 'Novacyne'

dustBunny is a Toronto-born, Montreal-based electronic music producer and artist. They began their journey in Glasgow in 2020, initially crafting a sweet, glittery, and somewhat naive sound inspired by soft comedowns, sunrises, and feelings of rebirth; music born from finally feeling seen. Over time, however, dustBunny’s sound evolved into something darker and harsher, trading vulnerability for exposure and fragility for intensity. Today, their sonic palette is closer to ransom letters than love notes, delivering cathartic sirens that serve both as emotional release and fierce retaliation.
dustBunny has built and moved through spaces like Dollhouse; a party they co-founded that grew from skatepark renegades to packed out clubnights. After Dollhouse, they launched a new series called PSYREN, with the first event titled Biblically Accurate Dubstep. They’ve played alongside artists and collectives such as TDJ, Petal Supply, Umru, Galen Tipton, 909 Worldwide, in cities around the world such as Toronto, Montreal, Glasgow, and London.  
On the summer solstice of 2024, they released their debut album, Halcyon - a culmination of the past two years of work and a demonstration of the breadth of their sound. The project was alongside a three-part outdoor event series, each held under the full moon that summer.
For this mix, dustBunny has taken pain and anguish and distilled it into potent wrath, contextualizing the body of work they have made in the past few months following instances of betrayal and exploitation. A war song for old wounds aimed at past hurt, this mix is both revenge and release; a refusal to stay quiet.
