Ziger's Eat My Hat Music winds down a prolific spring season by welcoming Stonecites back to the label for a new EP. With a career that spans over two decades Greek artist Nikolas Polytaridis has enjoyed a litany of successes under the monikers Radical Distortion, Synthloverz and Radical Frequencies, the latter of which also serves a modular synthesizer manufacturer which he owns. Perhaps best known for his work in the psy-trance scene, Nikolas embarked on a new project earlier this year, pairing up with fellow countryman Orestis Petroutsopoulos to form the Stonecites duo. Together the pair released their first material via Eat My Hat, a well-received two-track showcase entitled 'Space Cream' which would define the Stonecites sound. Now, continuing to build on that creative synergy, Stonecites returns to Eat My Hat with a new artist EP entitled 'Before The End We Dance'.

Beginning with 'Before The End We Dance', the duo combine their extensive forces once again for a cosmic slice of psy-flavoured progressive. Punchy beats and rippling grooves unite for a fluid low end, while retro arps and striking percussion add nicely to its prophetic nature. The narrative evolves as the main break takes shape, as organ-like overlays create a sense of anticipation, before psy-inspired effects and ominous atmospheres lead to a thunderous drop and tastefully twisted finale.

The release concludes with 'Tu Se' which lands with a deeper yet equally engaging quality. Stonecities opt for more of a timeless vibe here, as dubbed out tones and melancholic soundscapes blanket punchy beats and machine gun grooves. The main break bridges the gap between cinematic tension and late-night dancefloor drama, as the primary themes breathe in all their glory, set against a percussive backdrop, before a calculated build reveals the groove for a pulsating finale. It rounds out two powerful tracks from Stonecites, an artist duo who make an impressive return to Eat My Hat Music that is not to be missed.

A welcome returning figure to the Meanwhile Roster, Mike Rish is no stranger to success. With numerous cross-genre hits under multiple aliases, his own name sees him reach rarefied heights in the Progressive House genre with work signed to Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat Music, Guy J’s Lost & Found and Praveen Achary’s Juicebox Music.

December 2021 saw a Meanwhile debut with the sublime 3-track “Beyond” EP, while April 2023 witnessed a standout reworking of Jamie Stevens’ “Storm Front”. Returning for a second outing, his latest triple tracker opens with the funky rhythmic backdrop of “GT”. Using an intricate percussive arrangement to provide a club-friendly foundation, a swathe of stereo-panned textures and synth effects meander across the opening movements, accompanied by delay-infused vocal cuts. A smooth arpeggio adds a touch of traditional progressive drive at the breakdown and beyond, while a further synth motif blossoms in the second half to sit alongside the rasping and explosive bassline.

Continuing the effects-laden narrative, “Shoreditch Funk” quickly makes its mark with a woodblock infused percussive top-line. Stereo-panned pads and saw-tooth synths pulsate in dizzying fashion while a grooved bassline adds dancefloor ‘funk’. A cascading arp makes its presence felt, pitching in freeform oscillator glory at the break, before continuing unabated in detuned fashion throughout the second half. The result is a vibrant sonic collage that bristles with verve and innovation.

The final track witnesses another meticulously conceived rhythmic arrangement throughout “Reka”, with a subtle bass sequence providing dancefloor sensibilities alongside a heavy 4/4 beat. An acetylene-torch lead mesmerises with its glissando phrasing while a glassy motif combines with gently pulsing pads that swim enticingly in smooth juxtaposition. Continuing themes redolent in previous outings, a beautifully imagined synth phrase syncopates in exquisitely cadenced rhythm alongside percussive counterparts. “Reka” then evolves into a delicately conceived melodic jewel in the latter stages.

“GT / Shoreditch Funk / Reka” continues to find Mike Rish very much at the leading edge of modern and pioneering Progressive House.

The artistic German duo, North South Project, is back on Tanzgemeinschaft. They are known for blending melodic house and techno with melancholic vocals. Nothing less on their upcoming release for which Maegrit and Massela took their take on one of the tracks each.

Once again they showcase their ability to produce as an amazing artistic duo. Melancholic deep melodic techno with rolling beats and soaring synths. On his remix, Masella has an even more melodic approach for 'Incomplete' while Maegrit's take on 'Beyond Infinity' has a more techy touch.
