He’s known for his immense work ethic both as an artist and as label owner for @futureretrolondon and has regular shows on @nts_radio and Jungletrain.

I’ve been wanting to speak to him for some time for many reasons but mainly because he makes incredibly authentic Jungle but comes from a time after the Pirate Radio era. We speak about his understanding of Pirate Radio and the impact it’s had on the music. We discuss the concept of nostalgia and the use of nostalgia when making Jungle music. We also discuss his love for the DIY ethos - it runs through everything he does, including making music on a laptop on the train with Ear Buds, to the way he runs his record label Future Retro London. it’s very grass roots and he uses it both as a platform for showcasing the best in modern Jungle but also to give younger and up and coming producers a place for early releases in their career. He’s very community minded and very DIY minded and authenticity runs through everything he does.

0860.FM INTERVIEW #13 - Tim Reaper

Warlock played on the notorious Pulse FM in the early 90s but started his pirate radio career before that by starting his own station from his university halls of residence. The main reason I wanted to talk to him was that he was involved in a studio raid in which the police and DTI broke down the studio door and confiscated his records. He’s an amazing archivist that holds memories close to his heart but is also always looking to the future for the next sound with excitement and intrigue. Back in the 90s he was lucky enough to get a test press of Rufige Crew’s seminal Terminator and we discuss what it was like playing it on Pulse FM and the interaction with the listeners. A really wonderful conversation with loads of stories and anecdotes. He’s still active and makes amazing forward thinking hardcore and techno influenced music as Hooverian Blur.

0860.fm INTERVIEW #14 Warlock

Next on 0860.fm is an incredible recording of DJ Warlock on Pulse FM 90.6 from December 1992 - that amazing era just before Jungle came along in full effect. 

He hand picked this recording for the project because he plays Rufige Crew’s Terminator on Test Press the week before it came out. I’m sure you know the track but if you don’t then make sure to check it out - it’s one of the most influential Hardcore tracks of all time. Warlock was known for that bit in between Hardcore, Techno and Rave and this tape is a perfect example of that. Impeccable selection and I must admit, quite a few I didn’t know. Check out his interview in the 0860.fm archive and also his current monthly shows on Rinse FM. He lives and breaths this culture.

Live on 0860.fm now is a recording of Nicky Blackmarket & Rodney T with Stevie Hyper D and MC Gee on Kool FM July 9 1995.

Stevie Hyper was a very influential MC who sadly passed away some time ago which makes archiving and sharing these recordings even more important. Shout to @robbrie78 for the tape, there’s many more too.

A recording of DJ Wild Child & MC Skibbadee 16th Sept 1996 on Kool FM.

Amazing selection from DJ Wildchild along with Skibba’s Iconic MC style. Unfortunately we lost Skibba recently and this early recording is a great example of why he went on to have an incredible career as an MC and influence many that came after.

It’s also worth pointing out that at the time Wild Child was the only female DJ on Kool FM and in general Pirate Radio was indeed mainly men. It is what it is and it’s important to understand this and to see how different and more diverse things are today.

On this episode we have the legend that is DJ Krust - an iconic figure the early Jungle and drum and bass scene and part of a wider Bristol collective that has contributed so much to the music including top 10 hits, a mercury music prize and some of the most timeless classic tracks that have defined the genre.

We talk about his early days in Pirate Radio and how the DIY and Punk mentality is something that runs through his career right up to the present date. He discusses dub plate culture and the legendary Music House studio and a topic that comes up in these conversations time and time again - the importance of community. Fracture returns to the label for the first solo release since The Limit VIP to kick off another LTD 10” series. APHALTD001 sees Fracture giving the VIP treatment to one of his favourite hardcore records from 1992; The Skeleton Krew’s ‘Luv Ta Luv Ya’. Originally released on Skeleton Recordings, it was a big favourite of DJ Randall and LTJ Bukem but as a young Charlie Fracture was only 13 at the time it was pirate radio where he first heard it: 

“I had a tape from my favourite station, Weekend Rush. It was a Vinyl Groove set with MC Shabba over it and a lot of the records on there totally blew my mind. I’ve since found out what pretty much all of the records are but there was this one, Luv Ta Luv Ya, that I only recently managed to get an ID on and lost my mind again. I hadn’t heard it outside of that tape, which I sadly lost.” 

Soon after finding out the details of the record, Fracture took to twitter to pass on his love for the track and praise to DJ Monita. It turned out the praise was mutual and that he was very much still active. Very soon after that a remix was arranged . . . sometimes the internet does actually work, or was it something in the stars?

It carries on seamlessly from where Vol. 1 left off with a mix of label regulars, new names and some real head turners. It took some time to curate given the success of Vol. 1 and I'm very proud of it. The music reflects the label perfectly.

As a producer, DJ and label owner Charlie Fieber continues to be an important figure in the development and innovation of UK electronic music genres with a career spanning over two decades. As Fracture, Fieber’s output is prolific and never stands still. From the hyper sped up Techno sound of Turbo to the genre blending Footwork Jungle collaborations with Teklife regulars DJ Earl, DJ Spinn and DJ Taso. He is constantly experimenting and flipping the script and 2022 saw the release of the world building Ambient Electro album Omura with Sam Binga. Releases and affiliations have come from some of the UK’s legendary hardcore continuum labels such as Goldie’s Metalheadz, dBridge’s Exit records, where in 2016 Fieber was part of the mysterious Richie Brains supergroup with fellow experimenters Alix Perez, Chimpo, Fixate, Om Unit, Sam Binga and Stray, and more recently with Alix Perez’s 1985 which saw the curveball collaboration with Kenyan artist Nah Eeto. Fieber’s latest work is his most ambitious to date; '0860’ is an album, radio station and interview series that explores the history and legacy of Pirate Radio and its importance in the development of UK underground music.
As a DJ his sound has travelled with appearances on BBC Radio 1, BBC 6 Music, Boiler Room, Fact Mag, Rinse FM, Keep Hush and multiple US, EU, UK and Asia tours. 
In 2009 the label, Astrophonica, was set up as an output for his own music with Neptune and has since become a home for other like minded and experimental artists such as Sully, Client_03 and Moresounds. Fieber’s impeccable A&R has led to a flawless and in demand back catalogue championed from Annie Mac to Sherelle and with multiple nominations in DJ Mag’s Best Of British awards.
