Released as part of the Wolfgang Tillmans – There were 30 years between 1943 and 1973. 30 years from 1973 was the year 2003 exhibition, which is being held at the Kunstverein in Hamburg from 23 September to 12 November 2017.

Wolfgang Tillmans has devised a 35-minute sound installation as part of the exhibition. The installation takes the exhibition’s inner-city context as its starting point, and operates in conjunction with numerous photographs (from a variety of Tillmans’ work phases) and video works to transform the space into a single cinematic whole.

The Kunstverein in Hamburg is now releasing the 35-minute sound work 'Hamburg Sud / Nee IYaow eow eow as a CD, accompanied by a 48-page booklet that features exhibition views photographed and designed by Wolfgang Tillmans.

Electronic manipulations of Tillmans’ own voice, made to sound alternately choral, guttural and absurd, are mixed with a kind of sung evocation of the four directions of the compass – to which the exhibition hall is almost exactly aligned. To provide this counterpart voice, Tillmans invited the Hamburg-born and internationally renowned singer Billie Ray Martin. The alternating singing styles are embedded within long silent pauses, when visitors can hear noise from the two routes of traffic between which the Kunstverein is located: the cluster of platforms at Hamburg’s central railway station, and Klosterwall, one of the city’s main thoroughfares.

Through the interplay of screeching railway lines, traffic noise, the reverberation of the immediate environment, word play, and voice explorations, Tillmans uses the sound work to react to aspects specific to the exhibition room at the Kunstverein in Hamburg: you can hear the city, but do not see it.

In Further Listening, the second part of the CD, Tillmans presents further experimental solo pieces, collaborations, and two works that were previously released last year (now available for the first time on CD): Make It Up As You Go Along, Tillmans’ first release, and Device Control, which first came to public attention in 2016 when a full-length version of the song appeared as a guest contribution on Endless, a visual album by the US R&B musician Frank Ocean.

A Perpetual Host is Francisco Meirino’s fourth full-length, solo studio album on Misanthropic Agenda.
A deep dive into personal loss and the banalities of life and art, A Perpetual Host captures the raw, solitary, and often acerbic extremes that drive creation. Across four pieces, Meirino explores sonic tension and boredom, questioning the simplicity and complexity of the mundane with bursts of clarity that redefine existence itself.

Francisco Meirino is a Spanish sound artist based in Switzerland.

His music explores the tension between programmable material and the potential for its failure. His interest lies primarily in what is not supposed to be recorded : the end of life of electronic devices, electrostatic noise, magnetic fields and the unconventional use of music hardware and sound systems and how to exploit these sonic failures in radically different ways in his sound pieces.

His music combines intricate textures, sonic precision, wide spatial panning and is fascinating by its physical intensity and detail precision.

He mostly uses the modular synthesizer (Eurorack-Serge), various microphones, the computer, the field recorder, tape recorders and tape echoes, EMF detectors and various home-made electro-acoustic devices.

Miaux presents new LP ‘NEVER COMING BACK’ on VIERNULVIER Records.
The Belgian composer’s upcoming LP is inspired by the new film score she wrote for 60's cult film ‘CARNIVAL OF SOULS’.
Antwerp-based composer and synth virtuoso Miaux presents her new album, 'Never Coming Back’ on VIERNULVIER Records. The record is rooted in the recent film score she composed for the surreal and haunted cult movie 'Carnival of Souls' (1962).
Directed by American filmmaker Herk Harvey, this enigmatic ghost film influenced contemporary directors like David Lynch, George A. Romero, and Lucrecia Martel.
Miaux meticulously crafted the score in her home studio, relying solely on her two hands and a single synthesizer during the spring and summer of 2022. The inaugural performance of this renewed score with film, unfolded at Videodroom / Film Fest Gent 2022 in Ghent, Belgium. The compositions were subsequently unraveled, rewritten into full-fledged songs, and assembled into a new record entitled 'Never coming back ’, bearing Miaux’s unmistakable signature. The album is scheduled for release on May 3 and will be available on vinyl LP and all digital platforms.
Miaux will perform the album live at Roadburn Festival (NL), offering a pure interpretation of the new songs. Additionally, there are shows planned at STUK (Leuven) and Palmarium (Ghent), where she will perform the film score alongside the film.

It was a long and meticulous week of jamming.
Improvising in the morning, editing and mixing in the afternoon.
The mission was to catch a track per day. I had 7 days.
I recorded directly into the mic input of my 2002 old macbook so the quality and the deepness of those session is as it is.
I was in an art residency into a wooden farm house, part of this old ruined castle.
It was summer time but mainly rainy days, one after the other.
So much green and cows all around.
My soul was pretty smoked and during all the walks my favorite track was 𝘖𝘯𝘭𝘺 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦 𝘊𝘢𝘯 𝘉𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘬 𝘠𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵 by Neil Young.
