Confidential Recipe debuts on Radio Slave’s Rekids Special Projects with the deep, tracky techno of the ‘What You Think EP’. 

Heading straight to the club is the titular ‘What You Think’, with 909 kits pulsating alongside a variety of considered samples and visceral effects, followed by ‘Drill’, a pummeling yet subdued onslaught of FM tones and crisp hi-hats. 

‘Grain’ drives delayed vocal chops to the centre of the brain, as modulating synths flicker around relentless drum patterns. Hypnotic textures and smooth, fluttery pads take charge on ‘See You’ before ‘Body (Detroit Feeling Mix)’ adds a quirky flair to the release with its Dance Mania inspired samples, melody, and stabs.

Matt Edwards aka Radio Slave displays his knack for A&R by recruiting the Venezuela born, Colombia based Confidential Recipe, who has delivered a dose of high quality, heads-down techno artillery for the hard-hitting sister label to Rekids.

UK electronic duo Paranoid London announces new album, Arseholes, Liars, and Electronic Pioneers out February 9th, 2024, featuring Joe Love (Fat Dog), Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream), Josh Caffe, DJ Genesis, Jennifer Touch and Mutado Pintado. Paranoid London, the electronic band of Gerardo Delgado and Quinn Whalley, has become synonymous with stripping acid house back down to its basics, rescuing the sound from smiley faces, rave, and sugary excess while paying respects to its gay, black, American roots. Performing mainly live with hardware only, often with vocal guests, as well as unique hybrid DJ sets, the duo has established a tongue in cheek, grumpy punk sound and attitude without taking it too seriously.
Following 2019’s latest album PL and a bunch of 12” singles and edits, their new long-player Arseholes, Liars, and Electronic Pioneers refers to the cavalcade of c***s we find ourselves surrounded by. Our only respite being the joy that musical geniuses bring. The cover artwork and gatefold of the vinyl reflect this with a collage-like poster including personalities of all kinds, from politicians and royalty to music legends. When we asked them to highlight key music pioneers from their picks, they mentioned American electro don Aldo Marin, British producer Andrea Parker and Post Punk band WIRE.
Inspired by early ‘90s British prog house on the likes of Sabres Of Paradise Records and Guerilla Records, the album presents a step up on their production while the anarchic attitude remains unaltered, unadulterated and undiluted. In Quinn’s words: the album has a slightly more Hi-Fi sound than previous efforts, but retains the urgency and punk rock attitude that we're known for. It was tested over the summer, where it lit up festival stages at Glastonbury, Houghton, Love International, and many, many others.

As expected, PL has recruited a bunch of special guests on vocals including Primal Scream’s Bobby Gillespie, US house veteran Monica “DJ Genesis” Lockett, the novo-New Romantic/gothic, Jennifer Touch, and Joe Love, from Fat Dog, Brixton’s current ones-to-watch. As well, previous collaborators Josh Caffe and Mutado Pintado return for new recordings. All bring something unique to the party, while integrating perfectly with PL’s Fuck you! circuitry.
‘Love One Self’ is the lead single with Joe Love, from South London band Fat Dog, who have recently released their debut single ‘King Of The Slugs’ on Domino. His skill at flamboyant, unpredictable live shows, fusing rock`n`roll and rave, makes Joe a perfect fit with PL.
The song’s title, on paper, might suggest something religious. However, rather than biting Biblical prose, Joe’s lyrics instead liken beating himself “red and raw” to a William Blake-ian vision. The southpaw boasts that his “Left arm looks like Popeye’s.”
The tune’s ruff, rude jack, sits somewhere between Front 242’s Let Your Body Learn, and Adonis’ Chicago house classic, ‘No Way Back.’ Synths scream and shriek, their knobs sharply twisted and tweaked, emitting strobed energy flashes. The acid takes hold as things come to a climax while Joe’s own wailing, growling, and wild, echoed exclamations add to the mad, mounting intensity.

Mathias Kaden returns to Rekids with four-track EP ‘Control Your Mind’, featuring a remix from Marcel Dettmann.

Previously appearing on Rekids in 2019 with his ‘Liberate Drums’ EP, Mathias Kaden makes his second appearance on Radio Slave aka Matt Edwards’ label with four original tracks of razor sharp material, as well as a remix from Berghain resident Dettmann.

‘Control Your Mind’ opens with the impeccably produced title track, an electro flecked roller. Featuring hypnotic synth work and subtle automated inflections, the cut effortlessly glides, peppered with the occasional titular vocal refrain from Sven Väth puncturing the groove. Shifting into 4/4 territory is ‘Conviction’, a restrained but stunningly effective track that makes full use of memorable off-beat synth stabs and shimmering 909 percussion to constantly drive the track forward.

On the flip, Berghain resident Marcel Dettmann turns up the heat with his remix of ‘Control Your Mind’. Filtering the vocals, the MDR and BAD MANNERS boss also delivers a resonant bassline that works in tandem with knocking percussion, as creeping pads morph and evolve over the duration of the track, creating a trippy and propulsive banger.

Classic dub techno aesthetics are front and centre in ‘Substance’, a track destined for the golden hours between late at night and early in the morning, while finishing the package in fine style, the digital only ‘Anticipation’ showcases Kaden’s skill in crafting a killer peak time track, adding a welcome bonus of yet another weapon for USBs worldwide.
