Masters of the Snake Monastery GYDRA invite a heavyweight selection of artists to showcase their sonic styles for the Snake Monastery Remix LP. Five renowned names enter the monastery bearing a remix each to propel its grandeur to further heights. LEVELA brings the boisterous basslines of his trademark jump-up style, bouncing to and fro on his emblematic remix. SKANTIA then shows of his style of roaring basslines developed over a series of recent releases on RAM Records that do much to match the monstrous nature of the Snake Monastery’s guardians. Following this comes the high speed percussive flurry of GRIDLOK’s technical style, expertly forged over the span of his 20 year career and honed to an evermore exacting edge. AUDIO next delivers the full force of his brutal and heavyweight style, finding common sonic ground between his own Snake Pit imprint and the tenets of Gydra’s serpentine monastery. Finally, GYDRA invite one of neurofunk’s most renowned progenitors, KEMAL, who delivers a masterwork remix replete with his style’s resplendent energy as the LP’s final track.

"Collapsing Fractals" is a seismic sonic journey where ancient warrior spirit meets a futuristic digital apocalypse. True to its visual companion, this track is built on a massive, earth-shaking foundation of heavy reggae and dub basslines that pulse with the weight of the colossal figures projected in the night.

Expect a slow, hypnotic skank rhythm that is heavily processed with dub delays and cavernous reverb, creating a smoky, atmospheric groove that feels like it's echoing through the gritty urban landscape. Over this foundation, layers of distorted, glitchy synthesizer melodies and fragmented electronic textures "collapse" and reform, mirroring the chaotic circuit board patterns and digital wings. The sound is dense and intense, a clash of deep, resonant dub vibes and sharp, futuristic sound design that will rattle your ribcage. It's a dubplate for a cyberpunk future, where the bass is the ultimate weapon.

The name Katharsys derives from ‘an extreme change in emotion that results in renewal, restoration and revitalization’. And after one listen to the forthcoming LP sampler which French producers Hugo and Tom have been crafting in sonic solitude, you’ll understand why they chose this namesake. Following the start of their journey together in 2001, the duo began producing their very first drum & bass tracks. Inspired by the likes of Tech Itch, Kemal, Konflict and other heavyweight bass legends from across the darker end of the spectrum, the outfit have followed the same ethos. And that’s to transpose the primal instinct of Catharsis into every record.

Whether it’s Neurofunk or Darkstep, Katharsys have turned their hands to every sub-genre, across a wide variety of labels. Imprints such as Barcode, Obscene, Future Sickness and Guerilla have grown the pair from strength to strength, increasing their notoriety whilst helping to push them throughout the European club scene. And for their next offering, the renowned Othercide Records have given them a platform, an imprint which will release their second LP and further solidify their place as underground tastemakers.

The valley was a lush place, with flora and fauna of all types contained between its mountainous peaks. This way it had been for ages untold, and those who lived there wanted for not in their idyllic existence. Untouched they were by the world, hidden away in a pocket of paradise unknown to all others. Indeed, theirs was a blessed existence, but such gifts were a treasure that could not go unnoticed by all. On that fateful day, a shadow had passed the sun, and it was in the duration of this mid-day’s night that from high upon the mountain a thunderous roar did erupt. On a cold frigid wind came a new beast to the valley, with scales that glittered white as fresh fallen snow. Reptilian as it seemed, upon vermillion wings did it soar, and from its breath came the fury of deep winter’s hoar. It withered the forests that those who lived there called home, and those caught in its wake were frozen to the bone. Not even stone could stand against the great being’s wrath, and reduced to foundations were all buildings in its path. From within these ruins it plundered an invaluable hoard, taking the treasure of the valley’s great lord. With one final roar the beast then took to the skies, returning to the mountain from whence it came on high. Down below lay the valley, its inhabitants frozen firm, in fear under the shadow of that great ICY WYRM.

MIZO returns to EATBRAIN to debut his latest EP, which follows in the destructive wake of his Dust Devil EP on the label as well as further recent releases on labels including Neuropunk Records & C4C Recordings. Filled to the brim with the producer’s characteristic ferocious tones, the EP features a set of four tracks surging with serpentine basslines and deviously distorted sonics as MIZO leads the latest onslaught of the EATBRAIN horde from atop the eponymous ICY WYRM.
