DiscoDaze #247 - 01.07.22 (Guest Mix - Funk 2 Mars)

I recorded this episode live at the end of one of the hottest days of all time here in London, so it only seemed right to start off with some sultry summer bubblers. Instead of the usual jumping around the BPMs i started very slowly and worked my way up steadily, so we went from a smooth and hazy chug to something a bit more lively by the end of the hour. Bit less heavy on the promos this time as I was focussing on summery tracks, plus some stuff I actually paid for recently. It was a really fun mix that ended up flowing pretty well, despite me almost melting whilst standing at the decks. Us Brits aren’t built for this heat! 

For the second hour I was very excited to hand over to one of my favourite DJs, Briak from France. Every mix I’ve heard from Briak has been a masterclass in track selection and mixing, and this one’s no different. There are no fewer than 24 brilliant tracks crammed into this hour long mix, with global and afro inspired rhythms, many shades of disco, some housier stuff, all blended together perfectly into one sublime journey. It’s such a good mix, honestly one of my favourites so far on the show.

With an uncanny ear for disco,funky soulful, melodic grooves, he has been inceredibly consistent in his releases, raising the bar for this rising sub-genre. Black Light Disco returned to the Myhouseradio.fm airwaves with a show that’s literally baking in its own juices! It’s been hot out there, folks and we have a real late summer vibe to chill your mind and cool your beans.

Hosting the show this week is our resident Esteban, who has been trawling the music library here in BLD Towers for mid-tempo delights which smell of late August haze and beer gardens. Hailing from France, Oldchap has been a staple of the disco and edits scene over the last 6 years. The guy is a ‘crate digger extraordinaire’ (which we of course love) and his mantra of always playing the right track at the right time is something we can all get on board with too. As a producer, Oldchap has an impressive list of labels under his belt including Spa In Disco, Hot Digits, Slightly Transformed, Sundries Digital and Spin Cat music. We’re delighted to welcome him for his BLD debut and know you’re going to be blown away by this.

His extensive musical career and Nu-Disco Underground with electronic touch style has opened him the doors to some of the most prestigious DJ booths all over the world: Madrid, Mexico City, Ibiza, Tulum, London, Guadalajara, Berlin, San Francisco, Marseille, Jakarta, Barcelona, Milan, Stockholm or Bali, to name a few. 

In all of them, he's shared the stage with some of the most important global representatives of the style like Pete Herbert, Rayko, Thomass Jackson, Ilya Santana, or Ray Mang, making him a veteran of the dance floors.
Thanks to his long career, he's also collaborated with some of the most well-known international record labels like Midnight Riot, Rare Wiri, NDYD, Spirit Soul Records, Love Harder Records, or Hot Digits. Besides, he's also collaborated with some of the top blogs like 'Music is 4 Lovers', 'Gouranga,' 'Le Visiteur,' 'Deep House Moscow,' 'Red Bull,' 'The London Disco Society' and even radios like 'Vibes Radio,' 'The Basement Radio,' and currently on a weekly program for the prestigious 'Ibiza Global Radio.'
All in all, he's one of those DJs that feels exceptionally comfortable playing the dance floor, that surprises you with his musical selection and, even more importantly, that achieves the golden rule: Never stop dancing.
