I wrote this piece as part of the seminar in composition with new technologies of UNC (Universidad Nacional de Córdoba). Premiered in concert on December 9th, 2010.

Paradise (lush sensitivity digitally designed) was specially conceived for sheng player Li Li-Chin (TW) as part of her project Autour du Sheng à Paris.

This piece is going to have its Taiwanese premiered in Dec 24th, 2022 at C-Lab in Taipei, and it's going to be extended as part of a new project in 2023, commissioned by C-Lab and Ministry of Culture of Taiwan.

Blooming Fluorescence - Live recording

for quintet + live electronics (live binaural arrangement)*

Written in residence** at Miso Music Portugal (Lisboa, 2015). Premiered in concert by Sound'ar-te electric ensemble at 4th International forum for young composers held in Vila do Conde (Portugal, 2016).

The main idea was to use the real and virtual space in musical discourse to modify the gravitational sound source coming from each instrument played at “alla italiana” concert music way of representation. The intention is to provide to listeners an “other” way to understand music form from an expanded open formal perspective.

Each sound source builds a gravitational point of sound by providing a projected sound to an acoustic space (concert hall). The place where the sound is projected is which I call real space, and the space built with music is which I call virtual space. Using HOA features, I was able to modify each gravitational point inside musical discourse. By affecting each gravitational point, the way music materials can be related is no longer the same. So, music form cannot be understood in the same way.

Full Charged Void (2015)

Premiered in concert by Orchestre du Conservatoire de Paris under the baton of Pieter-Jelle de Boer.
30th march 2017, espace Maurice Fleuret, CNSMD Paris.

"The German philosopher Walter Benjamin (1882-1940) said something very deep. He said that we experienced history, but what does it mean for us to be historical beings? Not when we are engaged in... when things move...Only when we see culture being half taken by nature, at that point we have an intuition of what history means. We see the devastated human environment, half empty factories, machines falling apart, empty stores, and so on..."

En 1814, Ivan Andreevich Krylov (1769-1844), poète Russe, écrivit « L’homme curieux » qui raconte l’histoire d’un homme dans un musée qui commence à voir toutes sortes de petites choses (microbes, etc), mais qui n’aperçoit pas l’énorme éléphant qui est dans la salle.

Des années plus tard, Fyodor Dostoevsky (1821-1881), écrivit dans son romain « Les Démons » : « Belinsky était comme l’homme curieux de Krylov, qui n’était pas capable de voir l’éléphant dans le musée… »

Le sens s’inversa ensuite : le dictionnaire Oxford pour la langue anglaise fut le premier, en 1959, à se servir de la phrase : « Le problème du financement des écoles est devenu si grand, qu’il est équivalent à avoir un éléphant dans la salle. Le problème est si énorme, qu’on ne peut pas l’ignorer » 

D’ailleurs, l’expression idiomatique a été utilisé 44 ans auparavant dans les pages du journal britannique « Journal of Education », en 1915. La phrase fut présentée comme illustration triviale à laquelle un élève est incapable de répondre : « Y a t’il un éléphant dans la salle de classe ? ».

Pour moi, le processus créatif est très « mystérieux », parfois « crypté », et je passe un temps démesuré à remarquer toutes sortes des petits problèmes. Ç’est seulement au moment où j’arrive à voir « l’éléphant » que j’ai l’impression d’être sur la bonne voie.

A pink elephant in a room (2018), pour clarinette basse et électronique s’inscrit dans un imaginaire qui es la source d’un processus créatif à long terme de plusieurs œuvres tant visuelles, littéraires que musicales.

Per alas porci (2018) pour 20 musiciens, soprano soliste et dispositif électronique. 

Le titre vient du latin "Ad astra per alas porci"  (Vers les étoiles sur les ailes d’un cochon). 
A ce jour, Per alas porci, est ma pièce la plus radical. 
En toute sincérité, j’ai écrit seulement la musique que j’avais envie d’entendre.

Dédiée à Corina, de tout mon coeur.

Pigasus (2018)

a Mono channel miniature written as part of Cursus IRCAM.

Pigasus est le nom d'un cochon de 66 kg qui a été candidat au poste de président des Étas-Unis pour le Youth National Party. La candidature avait été annoncée durant les émeutes massives de la convention national démocrate de 1968 à Chicago.

Pigasus, est un jeu de mots formé par la contraction de Pégase (cheval ailé de la mythologie grecque) et par le mot anglais « Pig ».

Cette expression est également liée à la devise latine « Ad astra per alas porci » (vers les étoiles sur les ailes d’un cochon) symbolisant l’idée de quelqu’un de terrien, maladroit, mais qui a la forte volonté d’aller plus loin…

Francisco Uberto (b.1988) shapes his musical ideas with intuition from within the digital side of sound. In his music he manages expectations in the most imaginative ways possible, like a cold war of emotions. The horizon of his realizations extend from solo pieces to orchestral works with and without the use of electronics.

He received training in composition in Argentina (UNC), and France (CNSMD Paris, and IRCAM), and was supported by several prestigious foundations from Europe, and Argentina since 2012. 

His music has been vibrating with renowned international ensembles since his arrival in Europe. Resident composer at Casa de Velázquez, Ibermúsicas, and Cité des Arts, Francisco, today is composer in residence at Couvent des Récollets in Paris.
