This tribute DJ set was originally livestreamed to twitch.tv/francoisknyc on May 18, 2022. It features many of Klaus Schulze's most iconic electronic music compositions as well as some more obscure unreleased demos and outtakes. The material includes key selections from his early albums going up to more recent times, in a non-chronological order. This mix also features a number of collaborations he took a part in.

This totally improvised Live Stems Mix of Gino Soccio's iconic track "Dancer" was performed during a Twitch stream on March 19, 2022 using Traktor DJ Studio and a Native Instruments D2 controller.

It has the sort of hypnotic flow that feels like a perfect fit for getting 'lost in sound' at an after-hours party in a dark room full of sweaty bodies.

François K - Deep Space Set @ Precious Hall 06-25-2008 (pt. 1)

The second half of my set at Deep Space this past Sunday. Pictured next to me in the photo is the one and only 'Mixmaster' Michael Gomes, who was playing lights all night as only he can.

Things started pretty normal in this mix, but what I found interesting is that it kept building up in intensity and actually got rather  emotional towards the end. Besides myself and Michael in the booth, we're talking about how those people who were actually there in person seemed to feel. Will it translate that way when listening over a stream? Good question.

But don't expect much if any 'beat-mixing' to speak of for the last hour. Yet another most interesting observation: less beat-mixing, more emotion. I certainly welcome comments on this particular topic.

One thing I know for sure: there were so many beaming faces  when the lights came up, and the sort of joyful vibe which I treasure so much.

Excerpt from the early part of  my DJ set at Deep Space NYC for our third anniversary party on April 17, 2006 at Cielo. So much energy that day, so things did get pretty intense from the get-go.

This is a fairly good example of how eclectic it used to be back in those days (twelve years ago), I was just as likely to drop Hip-Hop, Techno, Drum&Bass, House, Rock and Reggae and everything in-between. 

Rough around the edges, full of efx and never staying in one place for too long.

This epic set is taken from one of those 'all-nigh-long' affairs where I got to play from start to finish; this one happened on Monday November 29, 2010. Whenever I got a chance to do this, Cielo's sound system was really helpful and always inspired me to play a certain way because of the amazing sonics.

François K - 99 Prince Stream (A Loft Tribute)

Here is a live DJ set I streamed to Facebook Live on April 30, 2020. It's basically the result of a crate-digging expedition for mostly-forgotten disco tracks which saw me foraging through mountains of record boxes, and managing to laboriously unearth special musical treasures that I can share with you. 

While a few familiar tunes are sprinkled throughout, at this time it's been decided that (unlike my other uploads) no track listing will be published. These here are not too difficult to guess yet, they may get progressively harder in future editions of the 'Disco Nuggets' series which have officially started with this mix.

This song was one of four remixes I was asked to do for Columbia. Two of them came out on this 12" release "Treat The Youth Right" and "Roots Radical", while  the rest were never officially released. ("Peace Officer" and "Keep On Dancing")

Jimmy Cliff - Treat The Youth Right (François K Mix)

This song heralded the start of a long string of hits for this stellar creative team as singer and lyricist James Williams started a very fruitful and inspired collaboration with producer and keyboard wizard Hubert Eaves III. 

"You're The One For Me" was one of those genre-defining records which literally altered the face of popular music both in the clubs as well as with radio. Their very futuristic but soulful brand of funk quickly set off in motion a flurry of stylistic imitators and this 'D Train sound' became the standard for many clubs of that time. This 'electronic funk' has widely been acknowledged as one of the foundational styles that went on to inspire House music a few years later.

As junior A&R for Prelude Records, it was my decision to include this particular dub mix into the album as I felt it deserved to be exposed and listened to rather than simply being relegated to some B-side of a single as most of these were during those years. 

This short but very dynamic remix of the song will always be special to me because it marks one of my first successful forays into expressing a heavy dub aesthetic behind the console, something which has slowly become my trademark when doing remixes, and it remains the version I am most likely to feature in one of my DJ sets today.

Session was done at Sigma Sound NY [Studio 8] on their modified MCI 48-channel console fitted with custom automated Allison computer system. The original 2" multitrack tape was originally recorded on a 16-track machine, but it was copied to a fresh 24-track reel at the start of the session. This allowed Hubert Eaves III to lay a new Prophet V synthesizer bass line and then double it for added thickness, plus making space for the two data tracks needed on the tape in order for the mix automation system to run.

This is the dub of my remix of this classic track by Hamilton Bohannon.

Mixed at Right Track NY on their brand new new SSL console in Studio B around January 1983, I believe this may have been one of the first three of four sessions done on it when no one even knew what this console was capable of. 

I don't remember having an engineer, just a lot of help from head tech Bob Schwall as well as whoever was the assistant engineer, and it was difficult session but quite fun and we made it through.
