The Skin Between Us Part II

François X, one of techno’s most innovative and introspective figures, returns with Straight Edge Society, a four-track EP that sees the Paris-based producer refine his unique blend of emotional depth and relentless, driving grooves. This new body of work marks his first solo release since the widely lauded CEO EP.

This release feels more like a statement a manifesto wrapped in four tightly composed tracks. It takes techno back to its purest form: rhythm as ritual, sound as transcendence. Known for creating spaces where emotion converges with immersive grooves, François ventures further into new territory, offering an experience that is both physically intense and emotionally rich.


Straight Edge Society

The Skin Between Us is a new two-part project by French techno artist François X, released on XX LAB. More than a record, it’s a personal statement, a sonic meditation on identity, legacy, and embodiment within the European techno landscape.

Rooted in the raw energy of Black American electronic music and shaped by years in European club culture, the five tracks unfold across two EPs with a sound that is sensual, groovy, and percussive. From Detroit and Chicago to François X’s own mixed-race heritage, the project reclaims techno as a language of emotional and physical truth.

“This is an introspective collage of who I am,” he explains, a tribute to the lineage of narrative groove and to a soulful, frictive vision of Berghain. His formative years at Concrete deepened this approach: techno not as spectacle, but as tension, repetition, and release.

Part I tells the first part of that story from the raw instinct of Bone and Signal, to the hypnotic murk of No More Shell, whose cut-up vocal treatment recalls classic Chicago records by Mike Dunn or Djax-Up, and the stripped-down power of Silent Tension. Together, they form a personal language, built for both the club and the self.

This is music that remembers, responds, and transforms.

More Than 2 years after his last solo project, François X returns with an EP on his new platform, XX LAB.

Recorded prolifically during covid this record unveils an innovative approach to techno from François, by incorporating modern pop and rap productions techniques he has developed over the period like arrangements and Vocal FX (all the vocals loops and FXs are his).
There is a profound sense of creative freedom in how François X’s music has evolved recently. Shifting from academic techno structures in his previous work, to a more brutal and edgy aesthetic, François has definitely unleashed his productive spirit.

The opening track “Forever’ N' 'Fever' represents a prime example of this imaginative boiling mind, setting off the EP’s murky tone with its evocative trappish vibe. This driving effervescence brings out a remarkable plurality in the tonalities of the compositions, swinging between the prompt and fiery club-ready atmosphere of "Lone Wolf Cabin'' to the ecstatic and emotive chemistry of "Shame Stare". This paradoxical structure can also inform us about its creator, as a retranscription of the emotions that run through him.

Challenging his role as an artist, the selfishness that comes with it and the limit of his dedication, François X is acting as a contemporary cow-boy, deeply entwined with his utopian dreams.

Taken together, the diptych is François X’s most personal work to date. It reframes techno not as a detached exercise in form, but as a language of memory and presence, music that belongs to both the body and the self.
As ever, François X’s sound is caught between lineages. Rooted in the legacy of Black American dance music but shaped by the European club experience, it refuses to treat those influences as separate. They echo through each other here, hybrid and inseparable, just as they do in the artist himself.

Part II distills this into two striking statements. Before I Knew The World is immersive and weighty, built on reverberant kicks and deep pads that pull you in like gravity. In Memory Of is more direct: a driving, knight-like piece of techno that balances percussive force with tenderness, offering affirmation rather than confrontation.

More than a release, The Skin Between Us asks what it means to belong to a scene, to a lineage, to a body. François X doesn’t attempt to answer. Instead, he creates presence: techno that remembers, resists, and insists on its own language

The vinyl edition presses both parts into a single object: tension and clarity fused, a reminder that these are not separate states but two faces of the same coin.

I wanted to share the complete audio from my recent all night long at Concrete, Paris. This night was the perfect way to start the summer season! A packed dancefloor, hot temperature, naked bodies, we were living in there!

Starting from offbeat and slow-mo tracks, I delved into a more techno and adventurous zone. Classic Detroit techno, trippy trance, Daniel Bell style minimalism, the list goes on. I was tripping like hell.

As the sun rose, the music became deeper and sexier, and it felt as if the many bodies inside began to melt with one another. I like when the club is sweaty and full of passion, and it was definitely the case that night. Grrrr I'm having goosebumps just thinking about it!

All Night Long At Concrete 23rd June 2017 Part 1

François x will open 2019 with the launch of a new label entitled demented xxx, with the first ep coming courtesy of the parisian himself.

Operating as a sister label to his longstanding dement3d imprint, founded back in 2011 alongside co-founder hbt, the new imprint and project will serve as a cultural platform for artists to share visions and expansive productions not confined within the worlds of house and techno, enabling the freedom to explore genres across the electronic sphere. 
This approach stems from françois’ own personal approach to music production and djing, with a key emphasis on warm, emotive and sensual cuts at its core.

The inaugural ep comes from françois x this month tbc, with the four tracks featured on '001' bridging the gap between his earlier and forthcoming work as well as his future vision for the imprint, incorporating broken arrangements, captivating soundscapes, and immersive textures to reveal a warmer, more house-focused side to x’s sound across slower, entrancing tempos. Whilst zoumenou’s productions remain centred around his own personal vision of the night, highlighted by the track titles across the package, the cuts explore and delve deep into the idea of open expression within landscapes heightened through the sense of both obscurity and mystery, returning back to ideas explored within his IRREGULAR PASSION LP released in 2018.
