A true artist always strives for new challenges to experience the unexpected, to master a different approach to the existing and to broaden one's mind. Marcus Worgull did just that with his Torture the Artist's anniversary art:cast that was meant to be an all ambient mix in the first place. In the end it turned out to be something else, something different, but still something that is 100% Marcus Worgull. It's become a mix care- and skillfully compiled by one that knows his craft in and outside the world's clubs, by one who always puts music first and hopes it has a relevance for his audience as it has for him. It's Marcus' honesty, his authenticity but also his skills as a DJ and producer that have made him a scene's mainstay and favorite for almost two decades. Of course, releases like his 'Love Song EP', including the highly appreciated The Cure remake featuring Fink, his 'Lenoix EP' in collaboration with Peter Pardeike or his dub-influenced EP 'Broad Horizons' - all out on Innervisions - enhanced Marcus' profile as a producer and introduced him to a global audience.

Eile, Eiligkeit, Geschäftigkeit, Hast, Wirbel, Zeitmangel, Gejagtheit, Hektik, 
Rastlosigkeit, Ruhelosigkeit, Unruhe, Spannung, Ungeduld, Anspannung, Unrast, Erregtheit, Erregung, Hochspannung, Zappeligkeit, Überspannung, Hektik. Durchatmen, Weitermachen.

Das alles sind Begriffe die das tagtägliche Leben in unserer westlich-industrielen Gesellschaft prägen. Jeder kennt, aber mag es nicht. Egal wie wir uns entscheiden, die Zeit schreitet unhaltsam weiter und die To-Do Liste wird immer länger. Alles verändert sich um einen herum. Der Wandel, die Beschleunigung, die Informationsflut nimmt immer weiter zu und breitet sich unhaltsam über alle Ebenen der menschlichen Existenz aus. Und wir sind ein Teil davon. Jeder von uns. 

Schreitet die Zeit heute wirklich schneller voran? Schaue ich auf die Uhr und verfolge den Zeiger, komme ich zu dem Entschluss, dass die Zeit immer noch gleich schnell ist. Komisch. Denn mir kommt es eigentlich so vor, als ob sie immer schneller werden würde.

Um dem Ganzen entfliehen zu können, habe ich das musikalische Experiment gewagt ein spezielles Mixtape zu gestalten, welches zur Entschleunigung beitragen soll. Passenderweise verbinde ich mit Langsamkeit immer Gemütlichkeit. Das animalische Sinnbild ist für mich ganz klar die Katze, welche sich nahezu unmerksam auf ihren Pfoten fortbewegen kann, als hätte sie die Fähigkeit, die Zeit verlangsamen zu können. 
Im Grunde würde ich dies auch gerne können. Vielleicht ist das auch eine reine Einstellungssache. So oder so eine große Lebensaufgabe. Denn langsamer wird es bestimmt nicht mehr.

Ich hoffe es gefällt euch meine Arbeit. An dieser Stelle bedanke ich mich schonmal vorab für das liebe Feedback, sowie die Inspiration durch euch (ihr wisst schon wer gemeint ist ;) ) Ihr seid die Besten.

PART I: eleventwotwentytwenty

Torture the Artist celebrates its 5th anniversary with the release of 'fivefourtwentytwentyone', a compilation compiled and mixed by the webzine-founder himself, Holger Breuer, who gathered together 17 exclusive tracks from artists that either have a record or relationship with the online magazine. 'fivefourtwentytwentyone', a numerical and literal abreviation for '5 for TTA', musically varies between Deep House and Disco, it makes an excursion to melodic and more techno-ish takes, it contains edits of current Indie/ Alternative but also Pop-artists and provides its audience with unreleased material from and of scene-heavyweights. The result is an eclectic mix that delivers several approaches to (electronic) music carefully and skillfully put together in a continuous mix that represents Torture the Artist's philosophy, namely that of offering various (mainly melodical) styles of music to its listeners from renowned as well as talented and uprising artists.

'fivefourtwentytwentyone' is released in four parts containing four tracks while each track is available as a FREE DOWNLOAD exclusively via Torture the Artist' Soundcloud-channel. The download-link for the 17th and last track, is unlocked to those who solve a riddle as each of the previously released parts will provide you with a hint. 

PART I: 'eleventwotwentytwenty' 

The first part of Torture the Artist's 5th anniversary compilation 'fivefourtwentytwenty' comes with tracks/ edits from Ditian, Avidus, Imperiéux and Ivory which are summed up under the code 'eleventwotwentytwenty', meaning 11 days until 2020. Ditian's track 'Cluster' convinces due its groovey and lush bass line, which is enriched with a warm and catchy synth-line that is predestined to either kick off or to add musicality to a set. Northern Germany based artist duo Avidus, namely Marc Wolf and Fritz Wagner, reworked on of the biggest tracks of 2019, Billie Eilish's 'Bury A Friend' and deliver a dark approach that is without equal as it takes the original to another level. Almost majestically Avidus' take combines Billie's emo-touch with a house-impact to come up with an edit that basically has it all without showing it off. The third track of 'eleventwotwentytwenty' comes from Milan-based artist and longtime Torture the Artist affiliate Ivory, who contributes a emotional roller coaster with his trademark trancey synth pads provided track called 'Solar'. Again Ivory shows that and why he's on top of the game when it comes to create melodies. Lastly it's Impérieux, who closes the first part, as he took on Ibeyi's tune 'Oya' and turned the original into a continuous darkly twisted mental masterpiece, whose vocals are as catchy as the artist's sound arrangement and selection.
