Jones and Kahn wrote the tune in 1924, shortly after Jones' wife bought him a baby grand piano for his 30th birthday and he stayed up all night noodling around until he came up with a few melodies, one of them being "It Had To Be You." Kahn added the lyrics, and the song quickly became a hot number that year with covers from Marion Harris, Paul Whiteman, and Jones' own orchestra. In the coming decades, Ruth Etting, Dick Haymes & Helen Forrest, Betty Hutton, Billie Holiday, Bing Crosby, Doris Day, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, and Barbra Streisand, among others, recorded memorable renditions. 

Frank Sinatra performed this with Tommy Dorsey's orchestra in the early 1940s before embarking on a solo career, but didn't include it on any of his albums until Trilogy: Past Present Future in 1980. This version, arranged by Billy May, was used in a pivotal scene near the end of the romantic comedy "When Harry Met Sally…" when Harry is wandering New York City on New Year's Eve. Harry Connick Jr. covered the tune on the accompanying soundtrack, which earned him a Grammy Award for Best Jazz Male Vocal Performance.

This song was written in 1934 by Richard B. Smith and Felix Bernard. The lyricist Richard Smith served as an editor of a newspaper before taking up a career in music. The composer Felix Bernard, who was born in Brooklyn, New York, played the piano with popular orchestras and was also a tap dancer and writer of musical comedies for Vaudeville. He later became a composer and though this proved his greatest success, he also earned a steady income writing songs for Al Jolson and Eddie Cantor on radio shows. Smith was inspired to write the song after seeing the central park in his hometown of Honesdale, Pennsylvania covered by snow. 

In 1934, Joey Nash who performed with Richard Himber got a hold of Bernard's latest song, and it did not take long for before it made its recording debut on RCA Bluebird. The recording featured vocals by Nash who was accompanied by Himber and his Hotel Ritz Carlton Orchestra. December 1934 saw another release of Winter Wonderland, this time by the hugely popular Guy Lombardo and his orchestra, taking it to the top of the charts for the first time. A decade later, Perry Como landed yet another smash hit with his interpretation of the Christmas song, followed by a long list of favorite artists who did their own take, including Pat Boone, Paul Anka, Frank Sinatra, Barry Manilow, Bing Crosby, and Elvis Presley to name just a few.

Numerous artists have covered the song over the years from The Brian Setzer Orchestra to Seth MacFarlane.

Perry Como included it on his 1955 album “So Smooth”. Bing Crosby recorded "It's a Good Day" on January 28, 1960  on a 45rpm disc. Dean Martin recorded it in 1973 and included it on his album “Sittin' on Top of the World”. The song was also sung in 1962 by Dinah Shore & Frank Sinatra and, on November 8, 1963 by legendary Judy Garland on “The Judy Garland Show” and included in the album "Just for Openers". It has been most recently recorded by Susie Arioli for her 2004 album "That's for Me".

This song was written by Bart Howard in 1954 as "In Other Words," and it was introduced on the cabaret circuit by Felicia Saunders. Two years after Kaye Ballard recorded the first commercial version of the song, Johnny Mathis released his rendition as "Fly Me to the Moon."
In 1962 the composer Joe Harnell revived the song, giving it a bossa nova arrangement. His version peaked at #14 in the US and won a Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. Two years later, Frank Sinatra recorded the song with the Count Basie Orchestra arranged by Quincy Jones. Though it was never a hit, his is considered the definitive version.
Other notable versions of this much-recorded standard include ones by Nat King Cole, Tony Bennett, Connie Francis and Westlife. Connie Francis' Italian version recorded in 1962 under the title "Portami con te" was an international best-seller.

At the end of 1953, Joan Javits, who was the niece of US Senator Jacob Javits, wrote "Santa Baby" for Eartha Kitt with Philip Springer, and it became a holiday hit and Kitt's most famous song. Javits came up with the lyric "Santa baby, just slip a sable under the tree, for me," and Springer quickly came up with the music.

"Santa Baby" has been parodied, referenced, and featured in various films and television series. It has also been covered by many artists, such as by Madonna, Kylie Minogue, Taylor Swift, Michael Bublé, Colbie Caillat, Trisha Yearwood, and Robbie Williams. Other musicians, like Cynthia Basinet, LeAnn Rimes, Ariana Grande, Gwen Stefani, and Summer Walker featuring Love Renaissance released covers of the song as commercial singles.
