Description: Here comes a litte song I wrote .... no not really. Here comes my one and only attempt to write a singable song. The attempt was made 1975 when I was 17, and the lyrics were not mine. The lyrics are still under copyright, and therefore I am not allowed to use them. After almost 50 years I decided to arrange my short little melody as a 'Song without Words' for clarinet (melody) and harp.

I finished this piece two years ago to the day - at the beginning of the Corona epidemic, when no one knew how life would turn out. At that time, music was a means for me to cope with the situation. 
Today, two years later, I have listened to the piece again and I am still quite happy with it. It has a relatively simple structure and uses almost only "dark" instruments. Everyone knows that feeling of lying awake at night in the dark, and the thoughts start to circle ...

Schlaflose Nacht für Orchester (revisited)

This is a piece about aging, based on William Shakespeare's Sonnet V:

Those hours, that with gentle work did frame
The lovely gaze where every eye doth dwell,
Will play the tyrants to the very same
And that unfair which fairly doth excel;
For never-resting time leads summer on
To hideous winter, and confounds him there;
Sap checked with frost, and lusty leaves quite gone,
Beauty o'er-snowed and bareness every where:
Then were not summer's distillation left,
A liquid prisoner pent in walls of glass,
Beauty's effect with beauty were bereft,
Nor it, nor no remembrance what it was:
But flowers distilled, though they with winter meet,
Leese but their show; their substance still lives sweet.

It comprises 3 movements:
I. Youth - with all its insecurities
II. Adolescence - time is fleeting, with the occasional fearful look into the mirror
III. Transcendence - the essence of beauty, making peace with oneself and the world

Ballet for Business für Orchester

I was probably 14 or 15.  
Written before I'd started any training in composition.

String Quartet Movement (youthful work)

This Adagio is the third scene of my Ballet for Business. It is no coincidence that I based the instrumentation on Gustav Mahler's "Adagietto" from the 5th Symphony. Because this piece is a love story. It therefore also refers in the same way to the stories of "Tristan and Isolde" and "Orpheus and Eurydice" - with solo violin and solo violoncello standing for the two protagonists - and the harp, of course, for Orpheus. It's a melancholic piece, but also perhaps my most tender one to date.

This is my one and only piano quartet = for piano and string trio. The work was completed some weeks ago and comprises 4 movements I Moderato II Andante meditativo III Scherzo IV Allegro. The work is in d minor. As usual I can only offer a bad MIDI recording since the work has never been performed.
