This song has been rolling around in my back pocket for about 30 years. I simply hadn't gotten around to putting down to DAW. I liked the pumping, slightly frenetic guitar loop in the Electric Mint pack (Wild Horses) for Metapop's Produce This #164 competition and thought why not now?

This is an poem written by my mother, Sandra Jane Tipp. At her request and with her permission, I set it to music.

I wrote this song over 30 years ago and performed it live on stage in front of my high school for a talent show. The winner was a popular kid who lip synced, so meh. I played this song around the house afterward a bit, growing up, but never shared the sheet music.

Only last year, I got a phone call from my sister, telling me my niece wanted to play something from me on the piano. This was not unusual, as she's taking lessons, is very good at it and likes to show me what she's learning. However, I was taken aback to hear her playing MY song from back in high school. She'd never seen the sheet music. She'd never heard me play it. My sister had taught herself to play it from memory of having heard me play it. My niece, in turn, had taught herself to play it from hearing my sister. At this moment, I realized that there was a real possibility of my music hanging around after I'm gone. That was a big push to want to start sharing my music.

Later, when I shared a recording of my niece and I performing the duet version (this, but on two pianos), he was amazed that I knew how to play piano. To me, playing piano is a very important part of who I am... so I was taken aback to find that people around me every day didn't even know I played.

These two events pushed me to make a home studio and start Forget Me Not Records... and both of these events were related to this song.

When I Was A Loser

I started playing guitar when I was 9 years old. With 10 years I started playing in a first band and in parallel I started in a second band, soon. In both my main instrument were the drums. With about 16 years I started buying  more and more equipment to do recordings as well as for live mixing other bands. After many years of interruption I restarted in the year 2013 even more enthusiastic with composing songs of diverse genres with up to date equipment and software.
After few years composing in the background, I am planning to release my first song officially to the public, soon. Stay tuned ... ;-)
