Recorded with vinyl on Technics 1210s, Urei 1620 mixer, Pioneer EFX1000 and a couple of turntable weights courtesy of the good people at Mastersounds UK.
I've decided to make the download available only as a WAV file - to maintain the highest quality audio. Don't ask me for an mp3!!

The first volume of this focused on Disco, and it had always been my intention to change it up for this edition. I've been in reflective mode this week, due to the passing of the legendary Frankie Knuckles, so it seemed timely to put out a mix - a tribute to the enduring legacy he helped birth. House.

Side A2 (Down In The Basement 001)

This was planned to be a fourth edition of the 'Rotary Connection' series of mixes. But it quickly became it's own "thing" once I pressed record. 
I've owned this mixer for around 9 months now, and am extremely honoured to have the very first of this series made by the wonderfully talented Medhi El-Aquil.
The sound is incredible: It's changed the way I approach DJing, as may well be reflected by some of the tracks on the mix... Starting with some beatdown stuff, before shifting gears to some classic NYC deepness, and then finishing with some disco business, because you know I love that!!
I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed putting it together.

I decided to put together a "pause button tape" style mix together of some of my favourite Soul & Boogie tunes (CLASSICS!), like I used to do before owning Turntables (the early 90s!)
Obviously the technology has changed (thanks Ableton!), but the vibe is the same: Quick cuts, All Killer, No Filler!

2019 was the year that myself and the wonderful Flamingo Pier crew undertook two series of weekly residencies (May-June and September-November) at the infamous Las Vegas nightclub on K Rd, in Auckland City.
Our final weekly party is this Friday - number 21 for the year! 
I wanted to put together a mix of some of the big tunes, as well as some of the lesser known ones that I've enjoyed playing this year.

I love playing the opening set at our club night Pleasure that I run with my friends Flamingo Pier in Auckland City.
You set the tone for the evening, for the staff, the early arrivals on the dancefloor. It's a wonderful time of the evening, and the air is full of possibilities! 
I am all too aware how lucky we are to be able to dance in Aotearoa, when the rest of the world has to continue to wait. We don't take this for granted! Love 2 the world. Booker / October 2020. XO

So a few months ago I managed to get my hands on an original, mint condition Urei 1620 mixer. Unbelievable! If you don't know the history of these, check them out. Amazing sound - the godfather of all DJ mixers pretty much!

Anyway, I decided to mess around and put a mixtape together using strictly vinyl, and an external Pioneer EFX1000 unit. 

It's definitely rough around the edges (no post editing in the studio!), but I hope you catch a vibe from it.... I had fun(k) putting it together.
