Frankie Gunns first started DJing back in 1991. Initially, he sought out hip hop and house records, but then heard the sounds of hardcore by listening to James St. Bass on The Hard Drive Show (89.5 CIUT) and that cemented his passion towards what we know as Jungle and Drum and Bass today. Upon hearing a Dr. No tape in the summer of 1992, he was hooked for life. His major influences from the beginning were Dr. No, Medicine Muffin, Jungle PHD, Ruffneck, Marcus Visionary, and anything Reinforced. Over the years he became heavily influenced by the sounds of A Guy Called Gerald, Underground Resistance, 4-Hero, Reinforced Records, Metalheadz, Photek, Source Direct, Luke Vibert and many more. Working alongside Toronto’s own DJ Moonstarr and Mano from Public Transit Recordings, he learned to refine his skills throwing Drum and Bass parties and work with a record label, as well as perfecting his technique by DJing at numerous events around the city. In 2001, he landed a job working at the legendary Play De Record in Toronto and has continued to work there, now as full-time manager, ordering all the Drum and Bass, Jungle, Dubstep, House and Techno music. Over the years, he has had many residencies in Toronto, was involved in his own production company throwing parties under the name Threshold Productions, was a partner with international superstar and Toronto resident DJ C64 alongside a crew who produced the record label Make:Shift Recordings, assisted with one of Toronto’s largest DnB promotion companies Theory Events, and now co-owns his own promotion company called Legacy, alongside Toronto’s DJ Prime from The Prophecy (89.5 CIUT) and with Renegade Hardware producer Gremlinz. Coined as one of Denise Benson from Eye Magazine's Top Ten People in Toronto Music for 2006, Frankie Gunns has been featured on the same bills as LTJ Bukem, Fabio, 4-Hero, Blame, Klute, Randall, Photek, Paradox, Seba, Calibre, Breakage, Equinox, John B, Chase & Status, Mampi Swift, Blu Mar Ten, Amit, Equinox, Random Movement, etc. A legendary fixture in Toronto's Drum and Bass scene, Frankie Gunns won Best Oldschool Jungle DJ at the 2009 Toronto Drum and Bass Awards. He had also held down a legendary Jungle radio show on the community radio station CKLN fm called the Rinseout show alongside Medicine Muffin until 2012. Frankie recently started up a record label that focuses on the deeper and breakbeat heavy jungle and dnb.
