One of our young team mates has ADHS and we were talking about Ritalin and Adderall and the different effects on the brain and concentration. Her response: ‘We all need stimulants’. It really stuck so we had to record the vocal and make it into a 
track!”

Continuing our features exploring talent around the country, this week we're pleased to welcome a special guest mix from Chicago-based Duke Shin, resident DJ at WYA (Where Ya At?) CHI, Housepit Chicago and Vocalo Radio. Here's what Duke had to say about the mix:

"My first encounter with Space Cowboys was on the playa in 2003. The theme that year was Beyond Belief, which is how I felt stumbling upon the mighty UNIMOG, deep playa, parked next to the Temple of Gravity--a 90 ton interactive sculpture featuring 5 gigantic stone slabs, mostly covered with happy climbing burners during the day. But this was latelate night, with a fire-pit underneath creating a warm shelter underneath the monolithic slabs, and a horde of dancers surrounding the UNIMOG and installation. I headed home for supplies and friends, and the sun was starting to rise as we pedaled back out. We found the UNIMOG by first hearing it, then zeroing-in on the cloud of dust from the dancers in that perfect Hi-RES-but-still-cool-on-the-playa magic hour of morning... you know it, yeah? Anyways, about this mix... new cuts and classic faves, from electro, techno, acid and house, perhaps a touch of breaks cuz RIPE. Thanks for listening!

Duke Shin RIPEcast Guest Mix

"Call It Techno" was the blueprint track which was written on June 4, 1989.  It was at the forefront of European Rave Culture and became a well known track in the U.K. & Germany.  The documentary "We Call It Techno" explains it right from the beginning and from that came the second & third Love Parade themes being named "The Future Is Ours" off the XL/Citibeat LP by Musto & Bones.  And "My House Is Your House" from the Break Boys which was Frankie Bones aka on Fourth Floor Records in 1990.

Frankie became the American Pioneer of Rave Culture on both coasts in 1990, playing Techno as a movement.  The Peace, Love, Unity Movement which in 1993 became PLUR after a fight broke out at an event in The Bronx which had Richie Hawtin as it's headliner.

And the rest is history.  If words can paint the picture here, the first 5 Soundcloud links will describe a DJ who has a journey of a lifetime & still is active in 2024.  The music that comes from the heart & soul of the Brooklyn Underground.
