Way before the industry started creating sub genres and segregating the scene, club and rave music was fresh, and artists used a combination of samples, vocals and synthesis to create the foundation for what has come to be today. This mix commemorates my early start when I played a mix of funky freestyle breakbeat infested vocal housey club music which we called dance!

When the Krafty ones made "Numbers" back in 1981, my German friends taught us how to count in both Spanish & English.  Uno, dos, tres, cuatro.  One, Two, Three, Four.  We were a year away from "Planet Rock" and the Roland 808.   We are talking 37 years ago, folks.  But once that 808 came along, the future course of our world was set for many of us in our scene.

Numbers.  To me it's not all about how many you have, it's about how you count.  I count in two measures.  An upbeat and a downbeat.  Roland taught me that.  One, two, three, four, two, two, three, four.  The metronome has been running since 1981.  24/7 every day, all day.  Rave Culture was spawn exactly 30 years ago, right now in the Summer of 1988.   I know it's 30 years exactly because 15 years later, or 15 years ago right at this very moment New York City and much of the East Coast was without power, the blackout of 2003.  August 14th was the date.  Looking back at history I have a unique way of vision in retrospect.  The Kraft.  The Werk.  

I'll make a track list for this soon.  I'm leaving to Copenhagen & Berlin in a few hours so let me just let this soak in for a moment.  30 YEARS OF RAVE CULTURE.

Scott Riley isn't a name that most old schoolers will call out when you talk about your favorite Orlando DJs from back in the day.  However not to mention him in the history of the Orlando rave scene would be a major oversight. Scott was the resident DJ at Firestone on Thursday nights and dropped a ton of good tracks that filled the gaps until the big weekend events came up. Just check out these 2 sets to hear the quality of tunes Scott was playing.

I did this mix for Groove Radio International in December 2012 as a tribute to the beginning of the early 90s techno scene, known today as EDM (Electronic Dance Music). In 1991, I co-hosted "The MARS FM Top 30 Countdown" with Swedish Eagle. I also had my hands in mixing the tracks together with DJ Robin! Our program also received the number one rated slot in the Los Angeles area from the hours of 12pm to 3pm every Saturday afternoon. MARS FM (Santa Monica, California based radio station) was short lived, but was historic in many ways and was the first FM radio station in Southern California and across the US broadcasting the music heard on this mix 24-7. Swedish Egil continues this mission with his now famous Groove Radio and Groove Radio International.
