LoFi-turned-HiFi producer FloFilz has teamed up with South London R&B artists Jerome Thomas for new single ‘Sensitive’. With his debut EP for Rhythm Section in 2021, Jerome has already captivated fans and tastemakers alike. On ‘Sensitive’ the Hackney-raised singer continues his distinct and soothing sound that has brought him support from heavyweight platforms like COLORS and BBC 1 and 6. ‘Sensitive’ is the third single off FloFilz’s upcoming album ‘Close Distance’ that will be released on April 8th.

‘Close Distance’ literally means “near in space or time” (or “nah dran”, as we say in German). The 16 songs on ‘Close Distance’ came to life over the past two turbulent years. It is no exaggeration to say that FloFilz has not only created another inspiring album with ‘Close Distance’ but one that demonstrates how music can close the distance which we all have experienced (and still do) in a beautiful way. With features by UK Jazz supremos Alfa Mist and Blue Lab Beats, London R&B artists Jerome Thomas and KeepVibesNear, long-term musical partners Summers Sons & C.Tappin, UK Jazz/Hip-Hop trio Dal & Cape Town Neo-Soul singer and songwriter Hunter Rose. ‘Close Distance’ will be released digitally and on LP with artwork by Indonesian illustrator Fatchurofi.

Exposed to music from a young age, FloFilz grew up in Belgium before moving to Aachen, Germany where he studied the violin and classical music, while also playing in orchestras. In addition to his parents, who were both musicians, he cites Hip-Hop icons A Tribe Called Quest, J Dilla and Madlib as key influences. Recognised as one of Germany’s most in-demand producers, the self-taught bedroom beatmaker has built his reputation led by his seductive blend of Lo-Fi, Soul and Jazz-influenced groves. Taking great inspiration from London's Jazz scene he has previously collaborated with the likes of MF DOOM, Alfa Mist, Barney Artist, Ivan Ave, Blu, JuJu Rogers, Biig Piig, K.A.A.N., J.Lamotta and K, Le Maestro.

This time he takes on the Slumber Session and packs in a tonne of unreleased exclusive material to deliver this beautiful, ethereal soundtrack to help you journey through your dreams. "This Slumber Session mix gave me a great opportunity to make a playlist of something I would want to listen to when unwinding, or to just fall asleep to. I wanted it to be able to exist in the background, without focus, whilst at the same time having elements of detail and beauty scattered amongst the layers of sound unravelling as the mix progresses.

In some ways you can think of it as a soundtrack to a dream. There are moments of calm flowing smoothly into more abstract sections. Textures build to go from sparse emotive landscapes to darker, brooding moments of tension. I wanted it to be dynamic, taking in a variety of styles and influences, whilst giving the listener a coherent experience and painting some interesting images in their minds.

It also gave me the chance to put in a lot of unreleased tracks of mine. I make a wide variety of styles outside of my normal output, so it was great to have an outlet for some of that material. There are also a lot of field recordings I've made over the last few years throughout the mix, including some from my travels. The opening section of music features the sounds of walks in Sydney and San Francisco, which at the time was just some subconscious grabbing of sound recordings without any kind of artistic purpose - it just sounded cool at the time. It seemed fitting when I realised where the sounds were from, as the mix would have been the perfect playlist for a lot of my sleep deprived travels.

I ended up getting so involved putting together this mix that there's a lot of live tweaks of outboard reverb and delay units layered on certain tracks to try and get the sense of space I wanted to achieve and give the mix some breathing space. I find that ambient music can be incredibly beautiful and achieve the range of emotions other music can. I hope that you enjoy the musical selection and can immerse yourself in it, even with the emphasis away from the hooks and rhythms of traditional electronic dance music."

Just in time for the hottest month of summer, Tricky has made his cover of the Janet Kay lover's rock classic 'Silly Games' featuring Tirzah available to stream. The track features on the new album 'Adrian Thaws' out now.

Following the creation of his own False Idols imprint and last year's album of the same name, Tricky returns in the fall of 2014 with a new studio project that shares the name he was given at birth: Adrian Thaws. "Calling it Adrian Thaws is saying you don't really know me," says Tricky of his 11th album. "So many times people have tried to put a finger on me and every album I go to a different place."

‘Sabah Al Noor’ is the first solo single by Berlin-based vocalist and writer douniah. A follow-up to her 2019 album ‘Dream Baby’, douniah releases her debut solo EP ‘A Lot, Not Too Much’ in November, digitally and on LP. The EP will be accompanied by a short film, directed by Elena Cremona and Nils Hansen.

Agadir-born and Hamburg-raised, douniah engages in the practice of interpreting her spirit, impressively, in German, Darija, and English. Her distinct yet genre-fluid expression is well-honed, with the ability to execute various roles in the creative process with a number of collaborators – notably her omnipresence on the electronic Lost Papers EP with Yoofee, and single ‘Space for the kidd’ from Move78’s forthcoming album Grains. The interdisciplinary songstress warmly credits her sonic inspirations from hubs such as the pioneering Black communities across America, all the way to North Africa - where Gnaoua and Raï music gave something tangible to a young douniah listening to her mother's collection.

douniah has developed a reputation in the scene for sublime live performances. “I think that my audience knows me through my performances and continued to grow from there.” She has notably supported Children of Zeus and Sudan Archives across the German leg of their European and world tours respectively, and most recently enchantingly set the stage for Rochelle Jordan’s show at Kantine am Berghain Further, she has played at Elbphilharmonie Hamburg was one of the very few musicians on the bill at Documenta fifteen.

The sound of dreamland this week comes from a collaborative effort between multi instrumentalist and producer William Yates aka Memotone and Glasgow via Brighton based Soroosh Khavari aka Soosh. The pair have are set to release their atmospheric yet perfectly musical, Memoosh LP on Monday 6th October via Project Mooncircle and now deliver your mid-week lullaby exclusively for i-D. There are enough imaginative ideas in the first half of the mix to tire your brain out, walking across the many wonderful and stange landscapes of your inner environment, before slowing lowering you into the deeper, more solidly rooted, sleep enducing tones. However, I feel it would be a shame to actually fall asleep as there is just as much to pay attention too in the latter half of the mix. This week we delve into the dreamworld of Lost Twin. Making music that flickers between the deeper realms of electronic production with cinematic spectral pads and weighty hip hop-esq beats. Having just dropped his incredible album The Mist, the Spanish producer delves into the mix with a hypnotic blend of dream inducing beats. Drift off.

"To me, the following selection of music could be described as psychedelic, without making distinctions in genres or BPM’s. Some of these songs may be dream-inducing, some of them nightmare-inducing, but they all bring me a certain feeling of unreality, as if they were snapshots of altered landscapes or distorted memories. It can also be thought of as the soundtrack for an initiation to psychonautics. One way or another, it is music that I find deeply enjoyable no matter what altered state you're in."

Manchester-based Producer Pitch 92 graces us with a fresh take on “Submerge”, his recent collaborative album with Jerome Thomas, presenting a reimagined selection of its instrumentals. “DMs - Beat Edit” is the new single.

With production embodying golden age swing and soul despite his youth, Pitch 92 is etching his own path into the modern hip hop landscape. Born in Dublin in 1992, Pitch grew up in Germany and Switzerland where the sounds of Madlib and Dilla fired his neurons and heart. Surrounded by creativity in the guise of close friends ASM (A State Of Mind), the crew got him to pick up his first MPC at age 12, graduating from the SP 303 sampler he was already familiar with.

Pitch moved to the UK in 2008 and quickly embedded himself into the Manchester hip hop scene. He met The Mouse Outfit and began playing MPC live along with the band – before long, he was a core element in the studio, his jazzy boom bap the nucleus of the first two Mouse Outfit albums, Escape Music (2013) and Step Steadier (2015).

Producing and touring Europe with the Mice for seven years, Pitch departed in 2017 to pursue a solo career. He has since released with renowned labels High Focus and First Word Records.
