I started working on this track in the hopes of doing something that expressed my feelings about Christmastime as an agnostic* and former student of religion**... Despite the commercialism, the "gimme" syndrome, and the almost militant defensiveness about the religious aspects of the holiday, having two young boys to experience the whole thing in their trust and innocence manages to still make it a "magic" time... Having family members and friends gather also makes it special, even with the political and religious tensions... I wanted to do something celebratory without being either completely devoid of spirituality, utterly pagan, or overly sentimental... Here's what came out.

*Favorite bumper sticker: "Militant agnostic - I don't know - and neither do YOU!"
** Was raised by a protestant father who was the Sunday School Superintendent, and an Evangelical mother... Attended services at many churches in my home town when I was a teen... Read stuff like The Prophet, etc. ... Decided it's best to be NICE to each other... Don't believe in UFOs either, but willing to consider the possibility...
