... it all started with a pair of drumsticks, a couch, and a strong will ... the couch was eventually retired (i.e. I played and played on it until it was nicely "packed down") and my Mom and Dad got me a drum set! It was not easy for them, I ruined their couch, but, what can I say, they are the best (and I hope they forgive me)!

So ... it was in the mid 70s when I started learning to play drums, touching on classical, rudimental, and big band jazz drumming styles. After some early "experiences" in progressive rock and jazz-fusion drumming, I heard Jack DeJohnette and things changed how I played and wanted to play the drum kit! In 1983, another significant musical crossroad appeared when I was exposed to Indian Classical music and started to learn the tabla under the guidance of Dr. Narendra Verma. A that time, the drum kit was put aside to pursue this inner yearning, opening up an understanding of rhythm and a spirit of music which, to me, is beyond words. In the past several years I returned to playing the kit and percussives with this sensitivity and understanding. Learning and playing music is a life long journey in every respect, need I say more?
